I will make an addition.
I have all rotary’s working (and switches)
It takes up all the available gpio pins.
But first I figuring out what the logic/functionality is behind the 4 switch options. (maybe it can be custom devined ??)
Two of the switches are clear but the two of the richt encoders I cannot see the functionality (yet)

How did you map them?

The four switches (S1,S2,S3,S4) were an addition to the initial kit, providing 4 user defined buttons which are configured in webconf wiring section

 ![zynths1-s4 switches](https://discourse.zynthian.org/uploads/default/original/2X/3/3c3d50f6efd88a9ed68aa504453e02fb232c3f5d.png)

It is important to decide if you are building to a v4 or v5 encoder layout because there is a decernable difference in approach between these two. Multi buttons basically.

This how I connected the rotary’s
I’m now going to look into this 'Mapping" I didn’t know this was an option.

Hi WYleu,

How can I use this mapping page you showed??
I can’t setup the pins for the rotary’s so they don’t work if I load this this option.

The mappings are for four extra S1 switches that are provided on the MCP23017 interface.

I am not aware of anyone providing them via GPIO pins, I’ve thought about investigating this myself but never got around to it.

It’s another reason why the MCP23017 is to be prepared, but They are added in the wiring encoder pins as extras to the switch pins so you have 4 encoder A,B pins and 8 ( 4 encoder switches and four extra s1-s4 pins). Examining the schematic for the zynaptik board is probably the quickest way to understand it.

This might work with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins, but as I say I’ve never tried it.

The above configuration is for a 23017 board but you ‘should’ or ‘might’ be able to use Pi BCM addressing to produce a similar response, without the chip.

</div>

I think that adding 4 encoders and switches exhausts the available GPI pins and hence none left to implement S1-4 switches.

Ok that’s me shot down again!
As I said I’ve never tried it or even got round to doing the counting…

The clever part of it all is that the mapping tool allows these characteristics to be presented to the software without complaint.

A good thing.

Hi Wyleu,

Can you tell me if it’s possible to connect original ‘V5 Control Pack/board’ directly to the RP4B without the Mainboard??? Just to get the buttons and rotary’s ?
It could be a nice option.

Thanks

Of course you can. Simply follow the tracks in the mainboard to know the pin connections 😉

You need to find a way to adapt the FPC connector to something you can connect to the RPi pins. This is the challenge …

Ok, but without the mainboard there is nothing to follow. So are there any schematics??

The schematics and PCB layout are KiCad files.

Found the schematic

At first glance it doesn’t look hard the hook up the controlboard directly to the Rpi.

Will take a closer look tomorrow

Thanks👍🏻

Hi Jocemodo, Tunagenes,

Great documented project. Also at second glance it should not be a problem connecting the board. The FPC \> pin adapter are standard
available parts on aliexpress.
(with the little extra buffer chip needed on line 15 (led) the midiports are also covered.

Thanks for the assistance 👍🏻
