Help! Encoders and bottom 4 buttons not woring

Could you try without any of this extra hardware?
I don’t know if the 4-pin fan connector could cause issues with the control board. Never test with It.

Regarding the ssd-hat, i suppose it’s only using the pcie connector. Anyway, i would check without any of these 2 pieces.

Thanks

BTW, could you show the cable you are using for connecting the control board to the main board?

It looks “strange” in your pictures. Light effect? Perhaps my eyes not working fine.

Yes SSD via PCIE. i will try with just the raspberry pi and even remove the SSD and go sd card just to eliminate everything.
This is the cable i got Amazon.com
I had bought the incorrect cable before (Type A), found out i needed a type B after doing some reading in here and the wiki.
I did plug the type A cable before for a short period when i realized it did not turn on. (Sent u a PM about that some days ago).

Ups!! Perhaps you fried the second mcp23017 by connecting the cable reversed. The control board has not been designed to support this case.
We test each board before packaging with an ESD protective bag + paperboard box. If you connected reversed and now It doesn’t work, i’m very sorry, but you probably broke it.

I was thinking about that too but was also thinking there’s no protection for both ICs so i expected both of them to either go or partially work. The first one works and i was reading the forum and found someone else made the same mistake i made and still got a fully working biard so i had hope.
Anyways if nothing comes from this weekend I’ll probably order a new one.
Thanks

What can happen is that one chip breaks down and sinks current which collapses the supply so the other chip is saved.

I just checked the schematic and saw that by reversing the connector the 3.3V and 5V power lines get swapped. This is not nice. It could break things. It could not.

Anyway, if finally you need a replacement, i wouldn’t like to make business from your error. I will send you a discount code so you can buy a new one at cost-price.

Now that you’ve mentioned it, it is definitely a possibility.

I appreciate your kind gesture but it’s not necessary. I was so excited after receiving the control board that i went ahead and put it together. I’ve watched the assembly video from YouTube so many times that i was able to do it without looking. That was my fault for not double checking that i needed a type B cable. As soon as it happened and took a quick look i knew the possibility of damage was very likely.

Anyways this is your business and my error. You shouldn’t have to account for that.

I appreciate all the help from everyone. You will hear from me soon.

Thank you.

I think there is still room for hope, mainly because the other person who hooked up the wrong, “type A” cable at first did have the control board survive.

Looking at the pics the connections look OK, but a little ‘bowed’ - I think it would be worth a shot to retry the connections and if you haven’t already another cable from the pack of five.

and May the Force be With You…

That’s the plan is to keep trying and keep hope alive
I plan of trying more cables from the pack of 5 as mentioned. Yes I also noticed that the board is bowed a little, it doesn’t really lay flat but not sure if this causes the issue. Either way I’ll find out soon enough.
Thanks
