I also didn’t fully understand the request, but with the AI-garbage above I had much fun in utilizing different modes that are combinations of how the plugin uses note-on, note-off, pedal-down, pedal-up states.
I don’t know what kinds of workflow you all have in mind for this type of plugin, but for me personally the gratification is in playing different types of instruments (band members) with the same midi input (multitimbral mode), i.e.:
Piano: no plugin, all notes pass
Bass: priority lowest note, obey sustain pedal, so bass note retains during chords played with sustain. Transposed 1 octave down.
Solo instrument (trumpet): priority highest note, but ignoring sustain pedal (or alternatively: obey sustain pedal but recalculates on new note-on matching criteria). Ignores notes below A4.
secondary solo instrument (trombone): priority third highest note (block if fewer than 3 notes are pressed). Otherwise same behaviour as solo instrument.
Filling (Vibraphone). Same as soli instrumens, but transposed 5 semitones down.
That’s more or less how the audio samples above worked.
Well, these are many parameters. But I think setup for different pedal behaviours are worth it.
I remember a classic synth – I think it was ARP Quadra – that did this back in the mid 70’s. You could play a 4 or 6 voice harmony part and a mono synth would play the top note. A nifty little toy, that fortunately was soon unnecessary. Fun fiddling with it in the music stores, though!
Another option you could use would be to configure a monophonic instrument in one chain and a polyphonic instrument in another chain and set both chains to the same MIDI channel.
Monophonic instruments include:
many synth clones have monphonic modes. For exampe MiMi-d works great
SFZ samplesets can be programmed to be monophonic. So, you either find one that’s monophonic by nature (like many violin SFZs or similar), or you learn enough SFZ coding to take one whose sound you like and make it monophonic. (SFZ is great for “hackers” – using the term in its original meaning, which is, folks that fiddle with stuff to get it to do different things than intended, without necessarily understanding the deep structure. Since the .sfz control file is a text file and mostly fairly simple, it’s not hard to change the original intent.)
Only if I change the CI script to make the filename constant, i.e. without any version encoded in the filename. I could create 2 copies of the same file which feels wasteful and confusing. I could lose the version info. It is evident on GitHub release page. I had hoped there were a way to have a link but apparently not.
Alternatve option is to use a clever download command, e.g.
@hannesmenzel I just tried your plugin this evening. Not always easy to understand how every parameter works, but when setting pedal mode to pedal pool, I obtain exactly the result I was searching for.
@riban I just see you made many evolutions to your plugin. I already obtain what I was searching for with the plugin @hannesmenzel developed but I will also try yours and I will make a feedback if you want.
Thanks you for the job and for this so rapid and competent answer.
