Latest Buster SD images use KXStudio repository

Hi @zynthianers!

As requested by @Baggypants on this feature request:

I’ve modified the SD image build scripts for using the KXStudio repository wherever it’s possible. By using packages from this repository we have several advantages:

  • Improved performance for some packages, like OBX-d, as falkTX (the guy who created the repo) has a lot of experience building packages (ARM platform included).
  • Stable versions.
  • Easy and quicker updates for engine and plugins
  • Reduced build time (about 2 hours less!!)

This is the first successfully built image with the new settings:

https://os.zynthian.org/2020-07-03-zynthianos-buster-lite-armhf-1.0.0.zip

I’m not sure if it’s fully functional. We have to test it carefully …

Enjoy!

Would you happen to know what version of kernel this is using?

I tested raspberry pi os buster and was able to get it to usb3/SSD boot on a pi 4, but I fear the zynthian kernal is stopping me from doing the same on zynthian.

This may hold the key !

Zynthian kernel is the same included with the official RaspberryPi OS Buster.

Works fine on my pi3.

Doesn’t work for me unfortunately.
The only way I’m able to boot into the Zynthian UI is if I set my sound card to Dummy Device.

Soon as I set it to what it’s supposed to be, “Rbpi On-board Audio” I get stuck on the splash screen displaying the IP address to WebConfig.

Regards
James

Can’t somebody reproduce the issue with “RBPi On-Board Audio” ?

Thanks!

The Software/Repositories tab in the WebConfig also doesn’t load at all for me.

I just get a “500: Internal Server Error”. Every other page loads fine.

Kind regards
James

@Tubbritt do you have anything plugged into USB? If so, will you try with it unplugged?

Hello.
There’s nothing connected. Just LAN and Power that’s all.

Kind regards
James.

Sive seen the same problem with on board audio. It worked previously using on board. I now select dummies

Please, could you send the webconf logs for the error 500?

From the command line:

journalctl -u zynthian-webconf

Thanks!

Yes, totally, I think buster have renamed the alsa devices. Change the jackconfig to use hw:b1 for HDMI or hw:Headphones for PWM

root@zynthiantouch:~# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: b1 [bcm2835 HDMI 1], device 0: bcm2835 HDMI 1 [bcm2835 HDMI 1]
  Subdevices: 3/4
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
  Subdevice #2: subdevice #2
  Subdevice #3: subdevice #3
card 1: Headphones [bcm2835 Headphones], device 0: bcm2835 Headphones [bcm2835 Headphones]
  Subdevices: 4/4
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
  Subdevice #2: subdevice #2
  Subdevice #3: subdevice #3

Software / Repositories page loads fine for me so I can’t help with that, sorry.

@Baggypants suggestion works…

Could not resolve github.com? is this correctly configured to reach the internet because it appears you have a DNS problem.

I’ve just clobbered my resolv.conf on the pi and it’s throwing 500 errors now. @Tubbritt I think you have internet issues. Although it would be preferable if this was caught, some people might want to use the webconfig offline!
