[noob question - SOLVED] IC sockets

Hi!

I just got my Zynthian kit and I’m getting everything ready to solder it.
I don’t have that much soldering experience, so I’m a bit afraid to overheat the ICs by soldering them directly onto the board.
I was wondering if I could instead solder some IC sockets and then just add the ICs on top.
I’d be glad if someone could advice me whether it’s a good idea or not.

Thanks!

Hi @ukitel,

I think I am not a noob at soldering, but I always use IC sockets. I am also a specialist in soldering ICs turned around - so the IC socket helps very much to avoid electronic junk :joy:

Ok, that answers my question.
Thank you very much!

Ditto. I am very good ad soldering, but if space is not a problem, I always use IC (and relay) sockets…
