Pi4!

Yeah, also updated my Zynthian-2-case for RPi4:

Now there is only one “old” RPi2 based Zynthian left

Just read that !!! You know you can stick two hifiberry cases together with magnets. . . i’m just looking for a suitable I2C connector

My suggestion for I2C connector GX12 GX12 8 pin connector.

It’s been a long time coming! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

It wasn’t damaged? YAY!

Oh I’d forgotten all that smashed pi4 business! I’ve had the pi4 for sometime it’s the hifiberry case that’s new!

Viewing the new Pi4 as VNC instance. I used raspi-config to start tthe vnc server service on the Pi…

and it starts headlessly with display set to Generic HDMI.

I am still finding that MIDI data from a foot pedal crashes pure data patches running in a sub process on my zynthian. Foot pedal data running in the parent process doesn’t cause a problem. Before I get into the process of debugging inter-process communication, I thought I would just try faster hardware.

When do we anticipate official zynthian kits running on the raspberry pi 4? I am about to make a purchase, and would like to be able to plan. I understand that the pandemic situation may have slowed things down…

Thanks!

And a rabbit ear antennae so you can play it like a theramin, LOL

Hey,
are you happy, for those who are concerned, with the 2G version ?
The 4G is 50% more expensive …

I have the 1G version and I’m happy with it. The only memory related issue I’ve had is not being able to load the Ivy Audio piano soundfont into Linuxsampler.

good to know, thank you !

This had better not just be the “Real Banjo” renamed!

Will it NEVER end …?

“…slightly higher peak currents required by the new memory package…”

“…no single process can use more than 3GB…”

“…early beta of our own 64-bit operating system…”

Looks like this version is of limited use for the current Zynthian firmware. Maybe a future incarnation will use the 64-bit OS.

Wouah, more then on my personal computer !!!
Could be interesting for virtual disk. Store in memory sound sequences that can be ultra fast accessed in a sequencer looper use case.

This might come in handy :

Goes on a '65 Mustang so I guess it should do the job

Yep. Looked into upgrading my zynth with a pi4 and XLR output equipped hifiberry. Getting mixed info about cooling requirements:

https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2019/raspberry-pi-4-needs-fan-heres-why-and-how-you-can-add-one

Some folk are like - “yeah you wont need a fan for audio stuff”, but my PD synth is currently maxing out all 4 cores, so I’m definitely leaning towards wanting some kind of fan for 3 set gigs in bars where the ambient temperature could be up around 30 degrees. Concerned about reports of interference from the fan, but will cross that bridge when the everything arrives.

I’d like to buy the next zynth, but cooling will definitely be a consideration.
