# Sound Module with 3 or 4 independent outs?

Hi there. I would love to have a sample based sound module, but with 3 or 4 independent outputs to be controlled on different midi channels. For example, 1st L/R out for Rhodes sound on ch.1 and 3rd out for Bass Guitar sound on ch.2.  
Any idea how can I achieve that with Zynthetian? Thank you!

Perfectly possible but you will need an interface with four outputs.

Hi @alien_vamp! Welcome to the zynthian universe.

You will need an audio interface with mutliple outputs. Then you use the chain options menu (bold SELECT on a chain in mixer view) and select “Audio Out” to show the audio output routing table. You can enable or disable outputs so that your chain feeds just the outputs you want.

Thank you for the reply. That pretty much what I’m doing now with laptop/ipad and an audio interface. I would love to get a dedicated sound module with outputs built in. No audio interfaces, just a sound module.

The official zynthian kit has 2 audio inputs and 2 audio outputs. It supports multiple inputs and outputs but you must implement this yourself. This can be done with USB (like the TASCAM US-1608, Behringer UMC1820, etc. - I have both of these) or you could use I2S boards like the [HiFiBerry DAC8x](https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-dac8x/). (This does not support audio input which is a real boon for zynthian but can be expanded with their [ADC8x add-on](https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-adc8x-add-on/).) Or, if you are willing and able to do some engineering, look at [this thread](https://discourse.zynthian.org/t/zynthian-dac-adac-light-ready-for-codec-development/10527) where we designed and build a prototype multi-port I2S audio interface. I want to see that project progress but do not have the bandwidth to advance it myself. I hope that @stojos is continuing with its development. (I would love to see a single board that has 8 inputs and 8 outputs available for zynthian but I don’t think that is the direction that @stojos is taking.)

So yes, zynthian can have multiple inputs and outputs but to put them all in one box requires some DIY effort from yourself. (I am building a flightcase with 8 input, 16 output zynthian using TASCAM US16x08, RPi5, 5" touchscreen, PSU, etc.)

Hi @alien_vamp,

If I were you, I would not overlook the Raspberry Hat solution based on the HiFiberry DAC 8X board, which can be connected to the Pi (5 version only) through a GPIO ribbon, and also combined with the latest addition ADC 8X. Fitting everything in one box requires a bit of tinkering, and arguably designing and manufacturing a custom enclosure, but it would give you what you are looking for (4 stereo ins and outs).
