tried Vangelis, no DIN MIDi working.
rolled back to stable Oram, quick uname -a
root@zynthian://zynthian# uname -a
Linux zynthian 6.12.25+rpt-rpi-2712 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.12.25-1+rpt1 (2025
-04-30) aarch64 GNU/Linux
Still no DIN MIDI. I also renamed it to ttymidi:MIDI\_in in Midi settings,
I have one instance of Dexed open listening to all midi channels and
webcon Midi monitor open. Completely silent.
Idk what to do.
SQ64 Usb midi work fine, Din Midi is coming from the same source.
Maybe UI should try some other test built?
But which exactly?
Sorry, it seems that my Pi5 is actually conspiring against me alone at this point…

Well, you’re not entirely alone, there is a general problem with DIN (5 pin) midi on Pi5, caused by issues with the non standard baud rate.

I _think_ you can fix it by updating the bootloader - to do that use RPi imager, for Operating System choose, Misc utility images, then pick Bootloader (Pi5 family).
Then create and run, it should make the screen green to indicate it successfuly rewrote the firmware. This just _might_ fix your issue.
May the force be with you.

Also, perhaps look at this if that doesn’t do it:

Flashed the latest oram, then updated to vangelis (I couldn’t find a completed vangelis image, but perhaps it wouldn’t be worth it since there are always new updates coming, so since you need to upgrade anyway, you might as well start with oram and switch versions once Zynthian has booted). DIN MIDI works Linux kernel is 6.12 (so my CME UF6 via USB now works out of the box. Yeay! slight_smile ) I understand this doesn’t help your issues @bambalay…

This has been fixed in the testing (vangelis) branch. Switch to testing and update.

Re-updated to Vangelis after the reflash, still dead in the water…

Whole zynthian not working or DIN-MIDI not working? Have you ever had your DIN-MIDI working on this hardware? You have a custom build so I don’t know what hardware you have connected to provide the MIDI input/output.

Could you explain what you mean - does it not boot, or just still ignoring incoming midi, or did it give off steam or…?

Did you do the bootloader update via SD Card?

My Gear
Pi5 4gb - Pi52 hybrid nvme+ Audio DAC+ sndhifiberry- Slim Midi Hat.
Pi Os is on the Nvme drive, when I boot into Zynthian, id from Usb-C drive and I take
away the nvme bc I can’t make it dual boot by pressing space…

That’s it.
Zynthian is working, I had a ver good time yesterday with the sequencer and engines and stuff, with USb midi SQ64… Also Pi Os with Cardinal is working… with Usb Midi…

Both Zynthian and Pi OS I don’t have DIN MIDI working. Nor the Encoder.
Althought both sees the 23017 IC, and at least in Pi Os, I managed to install ttymidi libs syswide by idrolez - I haven’t tried mod-ttymidi yet. I have also problems in pi OS installing Adafruit mcp230xx libs in venv… anyway for dead in the water I mean DIN MIDI, and the encoder.
