Hey guys, just getting started on a V3 I bought 3+ years ago. Got distracted and set it aside,bso now I’m running through the list. 2 sample box types, minidexed, dtdx, mt32, jv880 rompler now I’m working on the zunthian. Of memory serves me correcti tried to save some $ by not purchasing a case. Unfortunately I’m not sure if I’m missing parts, or they’ve just changed over time or what. For example, my POTS are all 5 pin, but all the leads and the images are 4 pin. Then the display shown in the builds all have 4 just jacks where the pots plug in. What I have is a brand new 2.8" ILI9341 SPI TFT LCD Display. Were these optional parts in the V3 or am I missing a box? Anyone used parts like this and built a working zynth. Now honestly, I’m guessing at the V3, as I recall it was near the end of one model, but I didn’t think the newer one had that much more to offer. Now it looks like their just selling one model at a time…any and all help appreciated
Are these the directions you’re trying to follow and the parts don’t match?
If so you may want to look at some of the other versions of the build guide to see if you can identify your kit-parts.

You are right on target. I guess i bought it farther back than i thought. Im pretty sure on a 43rd look that its a V2 kit, however the screen still isnt correct. I pulled it out of thr ziplok and it was bubble wrapped and conyained the ozzmalet symbol in the bag, looks like its etched in a small piece of wood. Bjt the screen is exactly the one i drscribed. Interestingly the reason i set it aside when i got it, is the blog guide has some specific soldering and i didnt think my skills were up to that. But when i opened it all up and seperatef out the parts bags etc. 90pct of the soldering is dpme, the control board is all assembled and just neefs the lrsfs jstd into them. Which brings me back tp the pots, all 5 lug, yet all the leafs are 4 as ate the jst. Now i know in a recent build of the mt32 they diagramed crossing pin 5 with 2, or just not using 5. But i didnt want to make that asdumprion
Is there somewhete i can buy an additional add on bpard for the 4 screen pots? I checked ozzmaker and their out of the original witjno due date on resupply?

That sounds pre-V3, which had a 3.5" screen. Maybe you have parts of a V2?
OK, now that Ive got the right build guide, things are moving along much better.
Still a question about the rotary encod3rs:

As yuo can see a little soldering and youll have encoders with JDT onnectors on them, but THIS is what came in my kit: (this is a standard Inet image not a photo of mine)
5 pins on the encoder 4 lines on the JST connector. as noted, one of the other synths I put together suggested that if using something like the PI you will usually rely on the sbc clock, so that pin wasnt really needed.
Havent tested it yet, but getting close. However my small electronics knowledge pre dates the internet, so if anyone has any ideas, or if youve used these encoders let me know.
I DO have some 3 post encoders, but nothing with 4.
Having said that I am going to go back and look yet again.

OK, all sounds good, and I didn’t notice any specific questions that need answering yet.
We (and by that I mean the Zynthian community) have gotten people’s DIY Zynthians working with lots of different encoders - you can search on encoder, zyncoder, etc to read about em, so helping to build from an old official kit should be easy.

Did you buy your V3 kit from the zynthian shop?
In such a case, please, could you tell me order number? I could check the contents of your order if it’s in our system yet…
Anyway, i’m 100% sure we NEVER sold this kind of stuff. In the pre-V5 era, we always sold encoders like the ones from the first picture. If you have a different stuff, you didn’t buy an official zynthian kit, and the instructions from the wiki tutorial probably don’t match your hardware.
Anyway, please send real pictures of the parts over your desk and we would try to help you as much as we can.

Jo, I appreciate the offer, and I did buy from the zynth store, but it was several years ago, so it will be a REALLY deep dive.
And to make things worse the more I work on it the more refined the ID gets as now Im quite sure this was a close-out on the V2 kit (sigh…one day), minus a case. I know I didnt buy the case as I have a 3d Printer, although in my OWN infinite lack of wisdom Ive decided NOT to use that and craft one from wood and acrylic.
Assuming I get it finished and assuming it operates as expected, it will be interesting to say the least.
Sad part is the difference between what I received and what the build guide shows is the whole reason I didnt attempt it when I got it. My soldering skills were poor at best, at the time and looking at the offical build guide the zynth board came empty and we had to solder all the parts. Mine actually came assembled! (thank heavens.)
