Another encoder that might not be news, is the M5Stack “8Encoder” a pre-assembled module with it’s own I2C communication interface with a “Grove” connector, might be a cheap labor saver at $14.95.

This looks good but they make it difficult to buy. I eventually found it for sale in the UK from The Pi Hut for £15.
When I bought mine, I did not find it difficult at all.
I just added to cart and PayPal’s my way out of there!
Yes, but that link is easy. From the doc link originally posted you can’t buy and from their homepage you can’t even find it. It looks easier, cheaper and faster from a local provider (like Pi Hut in UK).
