A Raspberry Pico(2) as cheap USB audio fan out unit for Zynthian?

This is the second time I’ve stumbled across this cool DIY project, and it got me thinking: couldn’t something like this be used as a multi-audio output for the Zynthian (similar to a Behringer UMC1820 but cheaper)?

I think this should work in principle. In addition to the Pico(2), you’ll need four inexpensive I2S PCM5102 modules…

If I find the time, I’ll give it a try… maybe someone else is curious and will get to it sooner? Or has anyone else tried it yet?

I’ve been planning to pickup the 8in/8out pair of cards from HifiBerry, once I have a few paycheques in from the job I’m hopefully starting shortly. This is potentially a much cheaper solution, though.

Hi @jtode,

Please be aware DSPi doesn’t have any inputs for the USB. Personally I’m waiting to see how thinks develop. It’s certainly an interesting project and I’m looking at it as a DSP Room equaliser for my studio speakers with an AES/EBU source. It’s been fascinating watching the development process and Weeb Labs, the developer, is incredibly talented. For those who would like some sort of kit / pcb he has mentioned his aim to sell the hardware later on. Other Forum Users have shared there PCB Development as pictures only but nothing more. I would suggest you start small and try it out before committing too much money.
