Add a PDF viewer

really mad proposal: :grimacing:

add a PDF viewer to read PDF of music sheets on a monitor connected by HDMI
I use SUMATRApdf that I believe is based on open source PDF reader

The ā€˜monitor connected by hdmi as a second screenā€™ came up in zynthian club. It would be fun but there are too many configurations. Someone using a pi3 self-build would likely be using the hdmi as the main screen for zynthian-ui where would the ā€˜second screenā€™ be displayed?

I re-open this topic to propose this new feature.
On stage I use a 2 in 1 notebook to read music sheets and I wondering if this feature can be integrated in Zynthian.
PDF music sheets would be on a USB pen and displayed by a touch screen driven by Zynthian.
Available PDF viewers for Linux: I found, for example, MuPDF light and effective.

If others are interested in this function Iā€™ll write an enhancement ticket.

Hi @piattica. This is a nice proposal: I would personally find it useful.

My question is how do you recall each PDF from Zynthian when you are playing on stage, how do you change pages, etc. I want to understand the dynamics. it could be a good idea if itā€™s somehow integrated to the zynthian use.

Hopefully in a similar the same way that classical players use.

A forward and back pedal probably.

You might well want hdmi2 in portrait mode.

I create a odt (Libreoffice) file adding text, chords, music sheet jpg, one per page, with a title; then I export in a pdf with bookmarks.

When I play I use the bookmarks column to select the song than I use the touch screen to scroll.

The zynsampler has a bookmark facility.

Not clear what you mean

If the audio is placed on zynsampler, and the page turner thingy was installed, the zynsampler bookmark facility could be used to turn the pages.

Good as play along technique.

May I suggest simply an other raspberry pi with an other (big) screen ?
Even TuxGuitar can show partitions with midi in device to turn the pages.
Or just a macro keyboard found on AliExpress with page up page down linked (there is also foot switch Bluetooth keyboard)

Certainly an option.

I use an old 12.9ā€ gen 1 ipad pro. Also I use ChordPro files so a pdf viewer isnā€™t something Iā€™m after.
