There is a new GPL3 emulation of the old Akai MPC2000XL, for Windows, Mac, Linux and a JUCE implementation.
I donloaded the Windows version. Didn’t test it yet but it looks nice. ![]()

Thanks @Nicolaz !
Also note you can get the testing version for iPad and iOS from the downloads page: Downloads .
Anyone tried it with Zynthian yet.
I have it for ios and only have it installed as standalone on Linux and PC.
I haven’t, neither on zynthian nor elsewhere and maybe we should, but what I see from the code and lv2 ttls it might not be very useful within a zynthian ui workflow without VNC at least. It seems to have one parameter only (latency) and seems to handle everything with internal variables states it seems.
Hi all,
Anybody succeeded in compiling this MPC2000 for aarch64/pi5?
Cheers,
Maarten
Hi All,
Izmar (the maker of the program!!) compiled for me!! What a incredible generous gesture!!!
(not sure anymore whether I am allowed to directly post the zip file… but here you might be able to finf it… )
Enjoy your MPC2000!!!
Cheers,
Maarten
Hi @maartmaart ,
How do you install this?
I copied the downloaded lv2 directory to /zynthian/zynthian-data/lv2-custom and executed regenerate_engines_db.sh and regenerate_lv2_presets.sh http://VMPC2000XL.lv2 but nothing appears.
Kind regards,
Hans.
Hi Hans,
Copied the .lv2 directory to /usr/lib/lv2 and regerated lv2 list and presets via the web interface.
Editing via: “http://zynthian.local:6081/vnc.html?autoconnect=true&password=opensynth”
Cheers,
Maarten
In the UI its called “VMPC2000XL”
Thanks Maarten,
The synth appears, but when I select it I get:
It appears in the chain, but no sound, also nothing in VNC

EDIT: Zynswitch (3,"S") is the SEL/YES button on my USB keypad. That’s the key I press to select a MIDI channel.
Hi Hans,
That was also shown the first time after copying and inserting the MPC om a chain.
But after reboot, it is no longer present.
Cheers,
Maarten
Hi Maarten,
It works now, at least I think so.
The chain loads, VNC shows the UI and I can control it.
I have to find the place where samples must be stored and It’s not clear yet how to select input for recording.
Kind regards,
Hans.
Hi @HansR
The library is located at: /root/Documents/VMPC2000XL/Volumes/MPC2000XL
The UI is a little bit primitive… ![]()
Cheers,
Maarten
That’s to be expected from a 25 year old device.
Bigger problem is that I haven’t heard any sound out of it yet.
Hi @HansR
There are 2 or 3 demo pieces in /root/Documents/VMPC2000XL/Volumes/MPC2000XL
You can select them via the UI… load (F6 and then F5 after selecting on of the 2 files to load) the .all AND aps…
Start loading via shift + 3
The song “resist” is OK for demo purposes…
Hope not to offend you… perhaps you are a MPC wizard…
Cheers,
Maarten
Absolutely not, I’m a complete noob (but a curious one).
Are these buttons or lights? They don’t respond at all
Hi @HansR
There hardly any feedback… look at the display:
1 shift + 3 … display should show:
Now the sounds and sequences are loaded…
You can play the squences by prssing the play button at the bottom (sorry…)
Also… the samples are connected each to a key (in the low range) so you can also play the via the (piano) keyboard
Good luck!
Cheers,
Maarten
Yes, i have sound. Thanks for your guidance!
It took a considerable time before I understood this means shift + 3 on the computer keyboard, not pushing the shift and 3 “buttons” in the GUI
Well, it’s an interesting device. Thanks again Maarten.
hI @HansR ,
Sorry… it was a bit confusing the way I described it…
Enjoy playing with it ![]()
Cheers,
Maarten
