So i went out and bought a new audio-hat to replace my IQAudio DAC+ since it should basically be compatible + it had an NVME on top (basically providing a hefty boost in boot + space available for all kinds of nice samples, etc with Zynthian).
Unfortunately, the GeekPI NVDAC (this guy: Amazon.ca) did not live up to expectations at all. It sounds alright when it does momentarily sound clean, but the sound has a lot of static (crackle/pops) which makes it rather useless, for me at least (idk if others have tried it successfully).
I ran it on a rPI5/4GB with the active cooler, connected to my PreSonus Studio 1810C soundcard.
Switching back to IQAudio again and sound is pristine once again. This device is going back to the store again.
What is to expect from a board that has audio circuits behind a power supply also feeding a greedily screaming NVMe? And the noise that one makes while crunching bytes has to be heard by any other piece of circuit in the neighbourhood.
It is really better to just use two independent boards, an audio interface and a separate NVMe adapter, and keep them as far from each other as possible.
At least if the designers do the cheap style.
I was kind of hoping that they made some efforts in trying to iron out such quirks. My issue is that i already have a case for audio-hat + rpi5 (HighPi Pro Case) and i could not really find an available case that would accept nvme, rpi5 + audio-hat (and i really browsed around. But granted, such a thing may well exist out in the wild).
btw, is such a case DOES indeed exist, please shout out (all)
