Behringer Kick - Open Source Groovebox?

Behringer seems to develop a MPC like plattform and makes it open source on github. What do you think?

This looks like a fantastic device to run zynthian

If it is also a Raspberry Pi based device this could work, couldn’t it? But I haven’t found any information about the SOC. Has someone else?

For sure it’s not a RBPi based device. But almost sure it’s a ARM64 one.

Should we also implement a “AI camera for gesture control” into Zynthian, and for some other control, hehehe…

IMO, it looks kind of cheap compared to the original MPC …

A few updates: We’re upgrading the hardware, and the final version will feature the powerful RK3588 processor.

The firmware is still a work in progress, and that’s where the community comes in. We can’t wait to see what you all create. That’s the beauty of open source!

Sorry, no.

That is a very alluring device that could maybe run a tailored Zynthian version as an ARM64 system.

In a sense, and feature-wise, it feels in the same region and ballpark as what the next (coming, one day?) Zynth 6 iteration could become.

I haven’t had a look at the Kick specs (if any consolidated are available), but the 7" screen and the expanded tactile controls seem a natural provision, in the next evolution of our beloved and musically talkative black machine.

Another Rockchip plugin host like AstroLab and others. Here has been that chinese guy with big plans in this forum to make an economy edition of Zynthian.

Yeah, it is very easy for a big chinese company to start an open source project on El-Cheapo-silicon and print some money with other people’s free work by selling the whole package with still a good cut from massive numbers of product sold to the greedy masses hunting for bargain. A “win-win” with a smell…

C’mon guys, let us not be so dismissive and suspicious, of anything coming from the brains (and business) of good ol’ Uli.

Sure, not everything spurted out by his company is a masterpiece in ethics and copyright virtue, but recently he afforded me, and many other people with normal money, the luxury of getting for ourselves excellent (and otherwise unaffordable) synthesiser recreations, with reasonable prices and solid builds.

And let’s not forget that the Deepmind was, and still is, a true achievement in analog synth design evolution, with a price tag within the reach of the masses.

Cheers :rainbow: :cyclone:

The people love the M-Vave FM-1 and also many people love to code(vibe-code) different firmware for it. The Behringer Kick will be a similar story but much better: more power, better display, better connections, more buttons. It feels like a missing link in next generation music workstation hardware. For about 150-200€ this will be a no-brainer.
