I am finding SooperLooper to be a real game-changer for me with the ability to record a bassline and play over it. I saw that the default configuration is for a loop track to only last around 40 seconds.
Can this setting be overridden? I think if I could have a minute then it would probably handle just about every jazz standard.
If it can be done, do you recommend it? Or are there good reasons to leave the limit at 40 seconds?
How are you envisaging the performance working? If you want it to play and loop backing tracks to perform over then it might be better to use the sequencer, that way you can load in the prerecorded backing and perform the head, improvise and play out, the upcoming zynbleton release will allow you to have discreet sections for intros, endings or middle eights too.
If you’re thinking of performing by live layering, then a minute is quite a long time to lay down each of the percussion, bass and harmony parts before you get to the head and improvisation. Not counting layers you’re not happy with, you could be nearly 5 minutes in before you hear the main tune, but then, it is Jazz…
In the 5th line, there is a variable “loop_secs=40”. Just change the 40 to whatever amount of time you want, save and reload the preset. Alternatively you could create a new preset with longer loop time.
