Cannot start new Zyntian-Image

Now i’ m doing that

Without solution.

I wonder:
doing a reboot there is no “error” or “start”-screen on the zynthian.

While I looked for the parameters with my ols sd, the zynth-screen showed several things.

But with the new sd my screen is white, nothing happends, only white

Ah,
I did an update again and now I have the “Terminal” under System!
Thats my ls mod:

What can I do?

Well delete one of the double posts first … !!

sry

Have you got an hdmi monitor you could try…?

IT might be a good idea to make a ‘ordinary’ raspbian Pi image and use that and see if you can get the display to work.
You don’t seem to be doing anything that upsets the zynth but the screen seems to be the culprit. IT prbably just needs the right numbers throwing at it, and the Pi image would at least confirm it can be made to work.

Oh, that s very difficult, because the raspi is build in in my novation Impulse keyboard.
I think that the screen is ok, because it works well with my old sd with waveshare 4A GPIO only.
But I think you’ re right. We only have to find the right values.

Can you get an HDMI monitor connection on to it…? You probably don’t need to remove the current display and if you can change the SSD then I’ve not had a problem with all the encoders and whatnots being connected when I test

A lot of this will be getting your head round exactly what is set up, so fb settings will probably come into play. You really have to rule out a broken screen first. Most of this stuff is fairly hardy but I’ve had a 7" screen which resolutely refuses to reset without a power cycle and that sort of fault can be a real pain to pin down, so you do need to be sure you havent managed to have done any damage, and then of course there is the careful examinations of connections with a multimeter just to make sure everything goes in the correct direction.

I would also keep updating on a regular basis peculiar faults have a habit of sorting themselves out ( I suspect there is occasional undeclared actions from the benevolant dictator, but I’ve never caught him at it … )

That does not sound so good. As I said: my old sd works, so I think it’ s a software problem.

But I will try another thing: I have another raspi4 in my rehearsal room and it has another Display 5" with HDMI. I will try to install a new image this night on that device and report tomorrow.

So long and thanks for your heip and impulse to you and the other guys.

Keep at it. it does teach you a bit about how it all goes together. Webconf access generally confirms jacks ok, but as you are discovering displays have a whole life of their own. Some of us fought in the touchscreen alignment wars …

… shudders.

everything will be fine :rainbow:

Sorry to disagree with you @wyleu… (actually you know that isn’t true :stuck_out_tongue: ) but webconf service runs indpendant of zynthian and jackd services so webconf is available even if those have failed to start.

OH ok. If I dont get webconf I tend to suspect jackd. I’m sure they used to interact, but things move on…

Diverting wildly to the HID thread, you use keyboards to control the gui don’t you?

Can you get to modify parameters from the keyboard…? I can’t get out of the layer select mode.

Hey @Micki it seems that your display setting is not good. You said waveshare4+Gpio …

Yes, i’ veseen that too. But I don’ t not what to do.
Can I edit this by myself or have I to write an bug-issue in github?

I’ve just had a look at waveshare installer script for the 4a Gpio only display and it is using waveshare35a as overlay. So it is okay as is.

I’m at work, can’t do much more right now. Maybe this evenning

From the webconf, edit your display paramétrer in advanced mode and add under
Dtoverlay=vaweshare35a
dtdebug=1
This will Make debug message more verbose. Save and reboot.
Then Once again, output of
vcdbg log msg

Got to go now, good luck

without result ;-(
cannot copy the whole thig, but read this:

004786.574: brfs: File read: 1446 bytes
004809.124: dtdebug: Failed to open overlay file ‘overlays/waveshare35a.dtbo’
004809.157: Failed to load overlay ‘waveshare35a’

@Micki , I’ve started one of my Zynthian once back home, and I had a look at /boot/overlays folder; theres no waveshare35a.dtbo but instead there is a waveshare35a-overlay.dtbo
so modify, in the advanced, view dtoverlay=waveshare35a to dtoverlay=waveshare35a-overlay save and reboot.

If this work (hope so) I will submit a pull request in zynthian’s webconf repository accordingly.

TädääääääH,

this was the jumping point!
Thanx for helping! You’re wonderful. And the other too.
I love Zynthian !!!

Now I have to reinstall my snapshots … :face_with_monocle:
