Hi there all,
I really would like if it were possible to connect the input and output of another application (=pipedal (lv2 app much like MOD-audio) because its stable and has a nice interface - I like to have an overview…)
In this way I can run zynthian and pipedal on one PI5 and have pipedal using the input and output of zynthian for pipedal… (so pipedal is only connected via the chain in zynthian to the AUDIO hardware). So a chain (in fact already available) can be an audio connector to the audio app (mono or stereo).
Hope this is possible and not to much work if found valuable…
Cheers,
Maarten

Hi @maartmaart !
It’s possible of course, but probably it’s also a good amount of work. You can create a feature request, but don’t expect to be attended in the near term.
Take into account that we don’t need, and probably don’t want another LV2 host in our garden.
MOD-UI is kept because it’s already implemented, but it receives very little attention from developers because it’s not needed any more and the zynthian way is avoiding the PC as much as possible. We always prefer to put our effort in improving the zynthian UI, so perhaps it’s better you explain what features of “pipedal” you miss on zynthian UI.
Of course, you or any other developer are free to work on this and make it a reality.
All the best,

Hi @jofemodo ,
Thanks for your response!! (It is a wonder that you still have time to work on the Zynthian because you spend so much time on reacting and helping zyntianers and probably others)
I wish I could create such a adaption myself… unfortunately I just have some matlab experience. I do grasp the abstractions out of which implementation are born, but no knowledge into detail. I tried to understand how lv2 works… but… eh… still no clue. (Would be nice to follow a workshop or such.)
What I like about the pipedal app (plugins are lv2 aarch46) is not only that it is solid and fast, but that the user -interface is very wel designed and intuitive (for me at least). So I thought it would be wonderful if a portal in Zynthian could be created to connect the in and output of pipedal…
This is not in accordance with the zynthian idea to have the parameterss in the zynthian interface itself in parameter lists. For me (I am visually orientated (almost dangerous to say this…))… So I want to see the overview and at the same time change paramters, either bij turning and switching software knobs and buttons (that can be MIDI controlled) or bij zooming into each individual plugin…
This is an example of the pipedal interface:
So it is comparable with the MOD-UI interface. There are no pictures but it is possible when selecting a plugin to show the (Native) interface:
With such a “portal” everybody would be free to plugin an app without “bothering” the zynthian application.
For instruments by the way I have the same idea…
I notice now that I always use the vnc screen in which the instrument is grapically presented.
But on a 5 inch screen graphical presentation is perhaps useless… (I always use VNC when creating sounds of guitar effects).
So finally… a portal functionality is not in conflict with the Zynthian philosophy and it will increase the usability for me and I think also for others.
I am very willing to try to help, but then I need lots of guidance… probably that will be to much of a burden.
So @jofemodo I will create a feature request.
Cheers and thanks for reading,
Maarten
PS
I really recommend to look at the pipedal app… very cool app for visualising plugins!!
The toobamp plugins within the pipedal are FANTASTIC! (written by the same person)
