I am in the process of trying to figure out a bug relating to how one of my snapshots works. I wanted to make sure that the bug existed in the most recent version of the software, so I updated last night(I just checked, and it says I am on “testing (vangelis)”, even though I thought I was on Oram on this SD card.
Since then, I find that I can no longer prompt a shutdown of the Zynthian 5.1 device by holding down the Opt/Admin button. I can shut it down through the web interface, which is better than nothing. I am curious whether this is a bug or an intentional change that I managed to miss mention of. Thank you.
There have been a few reports and some confirmed bugs that were thought to be fixed regarding shutdown in Vangelis, the not released for production, available for test version.
Your options (possible upgrade targets) are:
Oram - production
Oram (Staging) - has fixes that may-will show up in Oram.
Vangelis - the test version, has some major changes that may not be finished yet and you may not be able to go back to Oram with a snapshot or update!

Yes, this is a bug which should be fixed now. Please update and test.
The geeky detail… We changed from dedicated power-off and reboot functions, each with their own confirmation to a common power menu with power-off and reboot buttons (similar to an OS power menu) but I forgot to update all the references to the old power-off method.
Side note…. After updating, I saw the new shutdown/reboot screen, which I like. However, I realized that despite shutting down my Zynthian last night, when I came back to it, the keypad was still illumiunated. I am 99% sure that the keyboard that gets its power via USB was off, and the main screen was off. I could not ssh into it. So, I was again in the awkward spot of having to switch the system off, worrying that it might not have shutdown properly. Thankfully, this time, it came back up gracefully. I presume that I’m not the only one experiencing this?
Hi @jigglydad! Does this occur after every shutdown, some or only the first? I think this was something that others reported as happening just once… but I may be mistaken. (It certainly occured for me but I haven’t looked at the V5 for a few days.)
I can only report that it happened once…and I didn’t think it was the first time after an update….but, I do tend to update fairly regularly, so it may have been. I just figured I’d post to see whether this was a known thing…and whether it was known to be safe to switch off in this state. If it persists, I will try to report back. I just get nervous now about not being properly shutdown when I switch it off after my SD card got corrupted, so I figured any information I could get was good information.
