External antenna mod for Raspberry Pi 5 - Questions

Hi @fussl - putting aside the overclocking issue(s) and limitations of the Pi5 WiFi-BT built in module for the moment, I’m very interested in the possibility of connecting an external antenna to the RPi5 to get past the issues from having it blocked by Zynthian’s metal case.

Could you please share:

How you did it yourself or where you had it done or where you got directions for it and what kind of performance-experience you had prior to the shredding?
Thanks!

This video showing a Pi 4, which has the same Wi-Fi assembly as the Pi 5, is pretty good and it also shows, how delicate this work is, so you definitely need the skills, or you could just destroy the Pi. I have 30 years in electronics.
Be warned, whatever you do, you do at your own risk. I take no responsibility.

Looking at this now with some more experience with the Pi 5, I can say, it is not worth the effort.
You can’t polish a turd.
Just add a USB Wi-Fi-BT-Dongle and you have a good result without the melee involved in modding the Pi.

Thanks for the advice and info @fussl - that video answered my questions and even provided answers to questions I hadn’t thought of. And of course I realize you’re not responsible for my experiments!

Interesting video and accurate advice, thank you @fussl .

What about a WiFi router there’s some tiny ones that could connect to ethernet

TP-LInk TL-MR3020 is very cheap and would probably play well with some velcrow and usb power
