Fabla with more pads, hydrogen drumkits and other extra packages

Hi @zynthianers!

I have good news for those wanting more and better drumkits and percussions on zynthian.

I’ve extended our dear fabla to support up to 64 pads, organized in 4 pages of 16 pads each:

OK! It could seem it’s not super-useful, but there are very good reasons to do it:

First, by doing so, we can easily convert most Hydrogen Drumkits so they can be loaded by fabla. I did, and it’s now integrated in the “preset-cache” regeneration logic, so you can install your favorite hydrogen drumkits and use it with fabla (or DrMr!). Better?

Well indeed i have prepared a nice collection of hydrogen drumkits that you can install from the new webconf’s “Extra Packages” section:

By installing this “Hydrogen Drumkits” package, you get a nice drumkit collection organized in banks like this:

Yes, there is a bunch of drumkits:

And some of them sound like you were in Africa!!

(yes, there are more extra packages you can install from webconf )

Second, if you own a launchpad mini MK3, perhaps you have noted it has a “Drums” button that shows a layout like this:

Well, this 4 quadrants perfectly matches the 4 pages of 16 pads in the “new” fabla. I suppose the launchpad mini is not the only controller using this layout, so this makes this “4 pages” arrangement highly enjoyable

If you want to test this, simply update your zynthian Vangelis.

Enjoy!!

That’s great but after updating and loading Fabla i can’t see the drumkits anywhere, except for the old usual four kits.

Did you restart your zynthian?

If it doesn’t work, try this:

regenerate_lv2_presets.sh http://www.openavproductions.com/fabla

Perhaps telling the UI to rescan for new presets (bold-press in fabla’s presets list to access preset options).

None of the options worked. I there a way to install manually the kits using Filezilla?

Wait. Let’s work to fix things, please …

Could you check this folder?

/zynthian/zynthian-data/soundfonts/hydrogen

If it’s empty, delete it! and Try installing the drumkits package again.

I found an issue when detecting if “Hydrogen Drumkit” package is installed. It was giving “false positives”.

Could it be that the “Hydrogen Drumkits” package was shown as installed and you couldn’t push the install button?

I fixed the issue so it will not show “false positives”.

Just tried, had the same issue: empty hydrogen folder, and button in webconf saying the package was installed. Removing the directory let it be installed.

Nice collection of drum sounds!

Maybe one caveat: I already had a fabla chain in my latest snapshot, and after updating vangelis it made no sound anymore. Maybe because it moved structurally under Factory (I think)?

Yes, most probably this is the problem. I couldn’t be sure without the logs. I changed too many things in fabla engine

Send me the snapshot

it was the last state snapshot, I’ll see what I can do

017-old fabla savagedrums.zss (67.1 KB)

Re-set the old preset with zs3, this should have fabla set to savage drums.

The real issue is the new “base note” parameter, that it’s set to 0 instead the default 36.
I will try to fix it in the factory presets.

Please, don’t overwrite the snapshot so you can test when ready.
