FYI: Raspberry Pi Desktop now runs Wayland by default across all models

:+1:

Still not found a way of doing selected screenshot on wayland.

I can only grab the whole screen.

And labwc kills off alt ctrl left and right arrow for putting a window on screen left and screen right.

An essential requirement of the lazy cut and paste coder…

Wayland is still “beta in the field”, especially on RPi OS.
For example, a multitouch interface will not work reliably, RPi OS needs to be switched back (at least, there’s an option to do so).

Gnome desktop can do it, but if your using something else then maybe grim?

I’ve been using wayland for 4 years on my pinephone with phosh using a touch screen. That’s a device comparable with a pi 4. I think you might be a little behind the curve on where wayland is at.

The blog post states that raspberry took his time to test and evaluate Wayland on his devices. And that Wayland is now the default for all capable RBPi.
So, I tend to consider this as the “de facto” and stable option for future.

I’ve rigged up grim to do a whole screen capture on Fn F12 but it’s the windowing feature I really miss, particularly for a quick screen shot grab for answering questions here. . .

Grim shows you how to do that if you’re using sway, otherwise use Gnome Desktop.
