Holding/latching a note for drone pad

I’m trying to work out a way when playing live of holding or latching a note to create a “drone pad” on a layer which continues behind everything else played on another layer.

So I am in Stage mode, the idea is I would switch to the pad layer, hit the note I want on the keyboard and that note would then latch on. Then I switch to a piano layer to play piano over the top of that. (I’ll have the pad layer volume mapped to a controller or something to fade it out at the end)

I thought maybe if I manually set Sustain “on” for the pad layer, that might work, but as soon as I hit the sustain pedal on the piano layer, it also changes the sustain on the pad layer.

Can anyone help me achieve this?

Haha, found the answer shortly after posting the question - the “MIDI monophonic legato” MIDI FX does exactly what I need. (or “MIDI note toggle” would work too)

I’ve programmed one of the 4 assignable screen buttons to do “all notes off” to stop it at the end of the song.
