How can I save a custom SurgeXT preset in a snapshot?

Using the VNC UI, I created and saved a preset in SurgeXT. However, it doesn’t save when I save a snapshot. While I can find the file that SurgeXT UI saved ( /zynthian/zynthian-my-data/presets/lv2/Surge_XT_JEFF.preset.lv2/JEFF.ttl), I can’t figure out how to make that visible as a preset when I add a new SurgeXT chain.

The only way I can find to restore my preset is using the SurgeXT UI in VNC.

Is there a way to save a preset from within Zynthian UI?

If not, is there a way using SSH I can get that into a snapshot?

BTW, my end goal here is to create a demo snapshot for Zynthian that includes the bread & butter sounds that keyboard players in rock & blues bands would want. As a Boomer, yeah, it’d be weighted towards the music of the 60’s, 70’s, and some 80’s. But I think it’d make for a nice demo.

Have you tried to re-scan snapshots for Surge-XT?
You can do It from the preset options (bold press on any preset from the zynthian UI).

Alternately, you could save the preset from the zynthian UI instead of using the native GUI. If you do so, the preset is inmediately available without re-scanning.

These procedures are valid for all LV2 engines.

Thanks for the tip about bold press on Preset to get the preset menu!

Rescan didn’t make the preset I created from the VNC UI appear.

However, saving the preset in Zynth UI worked. It was fiddly, because it changed the preset, but using the SurgeXT UI I re-selected my saved preset and then clicked save new preset in the Zynth UI. (With a little practice I managed to get to the menu without selecting a preset. Gotta do that bold press just right the first time, make sure not to touch the mouse wheel, etc.

No need to “bold press” if you don’t like.
With V5 buttons, this menu can be also opened with short-OPT :wink:

This should work. You have to look for a bank called “none” or something like that.
Anyway i also prefer the other workflow (saving from zynthian UI) because you can choose the bank when saving.

Thanks! That even makes sense:

  • from MIX
  • click bottom of chain, which shows the engine controls
  • click PRSET, shows the preset list
  • click OPT – bingo!

Navigation on Zynthian is hard, but I understand the GUI limitations based on the limited buttons.

We try to improve and simplify it as much as we can, but zynthian is extremely feature-rich :sweat_smile:

Anyway …in this specific case, it’s not hard!! Come on!!!

  • push PRESET for accessing presets
  • push OPT for accessing options
