Recently, I wanted to see what version of OS my v5 kit was running. I couldn’t remember where the version number is (it’s in webconfig) so in my wisdom I decided to select the option Check for updates on my Zynthian thinking this might tell me. Alas, it went straight into update mode and crashed, rendering my Zynthian dead. I flashed a number cards all to no avail.
I opened up the kit and could see that the rpi5 was starting but had a flashing green light. I found an article here on the wiki that explained that the rpi5 had an eeprom boot issue. I flashed a bootloader sd card and then booted again with the latest Oram update. Yippee everything worked. However, due to my own laziness with backups all my work was lost.
So, in conclusion don’t use the option to Check for updates on the zynthian, always use webconfig and backup regularly.
