JC-303 (open303) on Zynthian?

Is there a way to get the JC-303 onto the Zynthian?

Yes. It’s open source and Juce-based, so it could be compiled as LV2 for aarch64. Perhaps it’s already done.

We are currently working to implement the “property parameters” so all Juce LV2 plugins get fully integrated with all its parameters.

That’s good !

Fatboy slim says: “Everybody needs a 303”.

Nekobi is unfortunately not a real substitute…

I built it and it works but without the parameter control I find it too limited. You can get into the GUI via VNC and tweak parameters but it will be better when we add parameter control of JUCE plugins to zynthian UI.

Note that the build process crashed my RPi4 based V4 but it was rapid on a RPi5 with active cooling.

Thanks for the info and for trying it out.

Unfortunately I don’t know how to build a package from the source code to install it.

I’ll wait until there is a simple solution.

Without control via the Zyntian UI, it is of course useless.

What would a Tb303 be without its 6 famous buttons…

IIRC I compiled it, and tried it. But then skipped it for MDA JX10 resp. Nekobi, with a distortion plugin and reverb in a line. JC303’s built-in distortion isn’t implemented yet.
Parameter support for JUCE plugins would be very nice, because some plugins are around.

Parameter support for JUCE plugins is being actively worked on.

I don’t really see the benefit of the JC303 over any of the other mono synths we have but, each to their own!

The JC303 sounds much closer to a Tb303 …

Nekobi and co. Try that too but fail…

I have various hardware clones here and know what I’m talking about.

Compare yourself…

Freeware is Open303 the best Tb303 Emulation…

I installed it and with Vangelis Test build all parameters are now visible.

Ups! You catch me! Latest vangelis now supports LV2 property parameters and full bidirectional updates between native GUI and Zynthian UI.

If some of you test with SuegeXT, you will note that parameters are available and work, but they are not updated when loading presets. I’m working on It …

Enjoy!!

BTW, jc103 has been added to the “official list”. Super thick TB103 sound in the zynthian!! Yessss!

Just update (vangelis) and enjoy!

I’m embarrassed to correct the highest one. But isn’t the name JC-303 and TB-303 more correct?

I feel like it’s also wrong in the title referring to the installation script. I upgraded to Vangelis and I don’t have this engine, whether I’m looking for 103 or 303.

I think @jofemodo may have been to excited and made a few mistakes:

  • The download is called JC303.lv2.tar.xz.
  • It would make more sense to call the install script install_jc303_prebuilt.sh.

I haven’t fixed any of this but I have manually downloaded and installed the prebuilt plugin and found it with search for plugins.

Details details … jejeje! Devils always is hidden there!

It’s fixed now, but @ToFF, after updating, you probably need to run the install script by hand to get it working:

$ZYNTHIAN_RECIPE_DIR/install_jc303_prebuilt.sh

After installing the JC-303 i had the idea to recreate a Zynthian version of the legendary Rebirth RB 338. I loaded two JC-303, a TR-808 and a TR-909, both Linux Sampler presets. Then i added compression, distorsion, autofilter and delay. I like the result but this is just an experiment because it’s difficult to replicate the original Rebirth system.
Even the track is a work in progress, and it’s not so acid as it should!
The video show the way i use my Lauchpad and a Korg Kontrol wich i mapped with some basic parameter.
If someone would like to improve the RebirthZ (different delays or distorsion and so on…), here is the snapshot without the track.

That’s cool. We almost had the same idea! :grinning:
