KKSB 7" Case = Great quality build

Evening

Just completed a Pi4 build with 7" touch screen and KKSB metal case, very very impressed with the hardware quality and it all worked flawlessly 1st time straight out of the box.
It’s finally a joy to use after several trial attempts with a 24" desktop screen which was the only other spare screen I had available .

I’m connected up to my Studiologic XPiano 88 for the USB Audio and MIDI, it’s working great other than the audio level is quite low.
Only a few hours since completing the build so likely a few tune up’s required to get everything dialled in.

This will do me perfectly fine until the V5.1 is available.

Any ideas on raising the default volume level is welcome, obviously I can turn everything up but then I start to get digital clipping.

Have you checked the Audio Levels view? This is where soundcard levels are set.

Is this the settings area you mean in the web console page?

Yes, you can do it that way or access the “Audio Levels” view in the Zynthian UI. I don’t have stable running on any of my machines so can’t check but the user guide in the wiki shows how to do this.

Yep thank you , found it now and working perfectly, increased to 70 for left and right seems about right for now.

Have to admit I have a lot to learn about the workflow.

Seems to be working great with the touch screen, I like the short/long press navigation, stroke of genius on you guys part to keep buttons etc down to a minimum.

Be aware that a new version is due to be released very soon that changes quite a lot of stuff. You can jump on that now by flashing the testing/oram version to a uSD card. We are working on the docs now and hope to make it the new stable asap.

Yep I might have a go at that, I have a spare SD card.
I do plan to buy the V5.1 kit when it’s available too.

OK, this pushed me over the edge. I just placed orders for the KKSB case and an official RPi 7" screen. With any luck, I’ll soon be posting pics of a working touch screen Zynthian box!

I have a working system now using the VNC UI. Can I just plug it into the RPi display and function well enough to get it calibrated/configured, or do I need to change anything via VNC UI beforehand?

Should be able to.
The Webconf will allow you to select the 7" screen in the display configuration and it should just go…
You will be able to use both VNC & the 7" screen but the display settings will be derived from the 7" screen. VNC can be a little bit small but the scaling options within the VNC settings allows this to generally optimised. Local scaling generally seems to sort out an acceptable display.

Morning.

Glad I’ve inspired someone but I do think the full Zynthian kit would be an even better experience.
Great thing is, using the official 7" touchscreen works with either version of Zynthian (Stable or Oram) and does boot up straight out of the box.

Either version works great with both my Presonus Studio24c interface or connected directly to the USB Midi/Audio on my Studiologic XPiano88.

I’ve now moved onto the latest ORAM build and thats working better still.
So impressed with that I’ve just ordered all the bits to build a KKSB Pi5 based system.

Going to sell my KKSB Pi4 8gb system now to cover some of the costs.

Except the price of the combo case+touchscreen, it’s a really nice solution with a lot of free room inside.
One can add batteries for a portable Zynthian or/and internal dac.

Yes, I’m primarily doing this so I’ll have a standalone box (not dependent on having a separate computer just to operate Zynthian). Building or buying a full system will be next, once I’ve used it for a bit and know what configuration I want.

Probably off topic but I’m trying to learn the sequencer module and can’t work out how to display more than 4 bars. Managed to change the pattern length to 8 bars but it still only shows the first 4 on screen.

This might be what you want:
https://wiki.zynthian.org/index.php/ZynSeq_User_Guide#Accessing_Arranger_View_and_Understanding_The_Layout

12 Grid Size

Sequencer pad view grid 8x8.png

By default ZynPad shows a 4 x 4 grid of 16 pads. The grid is always square, i.e. has the same quantity of columns as rows. The quantity of pads may be adjusted by selecting “Grid size” from the ZynPad menu. The maximum quantity of pads is 64 (8 x 8).

Sequences are added or removed when the grid size is selected. Any patterns are not lost but may need to be re-selected with the Arranger view (see later) when the grid size is decreased.

When the grid size is changed in ZynPad existing sequences remain in the same position. This may result in duplicate (default) names (see picture).

Thanks for the info, I found that setting, it’s the notes grid I was looking for.

It displays 4 bars but I can’t find a way to get to the other 4 bars in an 8 bar pattern.
Apologies for the reflection from my skylight
