Hi,
Is there a simple way to toggle multitimbral mode on all usb midi-in devices as default at Zynthian startup?
I’ve got few midi devices working on different midi channels and (in my scenario) after Zynthian starts (with Active mode as default) I must manually toggle all devices from Active to Multitimbral. I know that this setting can be save in snapshot but I think that would be handy to set it as default start state.
Snapshot is saved on proper shutdown and restored on next start so this should remember your last config. Also, if last snapshot is missing, a default snapshot can be used. These may offer you some resolution in the short term.
For a more robust solution, make a feature request. There may be some detail that needs to be considered, e.g. does a user want global default for all devices or for some, etc.
Did a feature request get added for this?
My use case is a “Paint Audio Midi Captain” and two midi keyboards for a weekly jam session at a friends house. This depends on multi-mode so that I can play one keyboard on MIDI Chan 1 and the other on MIDI Chan 2 (etc.) and get different engines/patches on the fly by switching the MIDI channel the keyboard is sending on. Percussion is also sent on MIDI Chan 10 by drum pads on both keyboards.
I am regularly dropped into active mode by the USB configuration changing due to power up sequence, what usb port I am plugged into etc. and then both keyboards play the same channel highlighted in the mixer.
At this point, I’m looking for some way of hacking into the zynthian-ui code to force it into multi mode by default as a workaround.
If you have a snapshot that sets the right mode for MIDI input then it should work. If your MIDI keyboards are identical (or identify as such) then you may wish to enable “MIDI-USB mapped by port” in the admin menu so that your configuration is based on which physical MIDI port each keyboard is plugged. If they are differentiated by USB name, then you may wish to disable this to ensure each is recognised the same, no matter which physical port you plug them to.
After switching this mode, ensure you check the MIDI Input configurations and resave the snapshot.
