New testing image Bookworm Oram 64bits

Oh, so close… I have just done all the new installation yesterday, after receiving a replacement for a broken SD card, using the 2024-09-07 image and spent a day on the customizations. Should I repeat everything now again? Is an update not enough?

No! Don’t worry. The image you used from 2024-09-07 is already 2409, so it’s based in the latest RBPi OS version and you can simply update to get the latest fixes.

The only thing you have to do “by hand” is upgrading the Pianoteq version. Run from the terminal:

$ZYNTHIAN_RECIPE_DIR/install_pianoteq_demo.sh

EDITED: Don’t worry! The pianoteq demo will be upgraded when updating.

And that’s all.

Enjoy!

Pity the poor fool with 5 Pi4’s and 5 Pi3’s…

I’m off to start backing up, and bump some machine numbers…

Thanks. I have the latest Pianoteq version already installed and registered to a full licence.

On the other hand, the SD card is basically inaccessible without disassembling a lot of things, since I have embedded my Zynthian into an old Novation X-Station 61 and wrapped in a bunch of passive coolers  … Maybe I should also get some SD card extension strap to make it more accessible for such cases.

Is it safe to backup the configuration from the old oram (freshly updated) and just restore onto the new image then?

Probably you own the biggest zynthian cloud in this world, mate!
You should think of developing some obscure “ansible scripts” or something like that for managing it! perhaps @pau could collaborate on this task

Shit! Then the update will overwrite your licensed version! I will remove from the update again

Done! You can update safely!

A problem the zynth had way back in ancient history. You had to take a Version One apart to change the SSD… Incidentally

this Version one is running oram from a battery pack…

Probably yes, but use a new SD card if possible, so you can come back to your working image if something goes wrong.

And send feedback, please

What a beautiful picture! I love to see this venerable V1 running the latest Oram image!

Still one minor issue: “Error saving snapshot” when i run “reboot” from command line or turn the RPi5 off using its power button (which is basically equivalent, I suppose).

(And the puzzle with the encoder switches/buttons 21-24 (index 24-27) not working, of course. I still have to solve that if you have no idea what could be wrong on my side.)

Yep. I noted this issue yesterday.
I think this only occurs when no chains are created, right?

Sorry, you should refresh my mind about this “puzzle” thing …

The best,

I usually have just one instrument chain with a Pianoteq. Didn’t test with other configurations.

I tried to write a detailed summary (currently still the last post in that thread).

To any possible users of my v5touch fork of the zynthian-gui:

I am trying to keep my branch synchronized with the upstream changes as frequently as possible, so that you too should get all the nice improvements and fixes to the UI made by the core team members as quickly as possible.

Lately, I have (hopefully) found a slightly better and cleaner way of integration with the main code. It should fix the remaining cosmetic issues (like font size and zynthian logo scaling) and hopefully make the code more acceptable for the merge into the upstream.

Hi @jofemodo ,

Probably yes, but use a new SD card if possible, so you can come back to your working image if something goes wrong.

I did this … because: no backup … no mercy

The data/config restoration was working fine, in general. But…
after loading the snapshots, which were working well on the prior oram zynthian I got some troubles.
Chain loading errors, midi chains not restored, etc.

After some investigation I found that the zyndistortion filter is not any more in the plugin repository of zynthian, hence I deleted it in the snapshot and - voila. The chain was recreated.

Just a suggestion: my biggest problem during the development phase is that I don’t exactly know, what was changed when the next release is published. Sometimes I look into github code changes, but not always. In this case…
But I can live with it, at least it was a testing phase, and is a RC1 phase now.
Q: Will the plugin repository be kept as it is ATM or will there be other additions/deletions?

Regards

Hey! A missing plugin is an issue that must be fixed. Let me restore the missing ones.

There should not be significant deletions!

New rc burnt to pedal board. Very nice start up …

OK! The zynaddsubfx LV2 plugins have been re-added to the list. Please update and test.

If anyone detect any other plugin deletion, please, report ASAP. We don’t want to remove any existent plugin, specially plugins so good as these ones!!

Regards!
