Hi All,
It’s starting to become a never ending story with the build.
I had build a zynthian with an original main- and controlboard. Everything was playing execpt the encoders didn’t work. (Obviously damage to the 23017 chip on the control board)
The guy’s from the Zynthian shop helped me out and send me a new board. I also got a case. So now the build is a fully original Zynthian V5 kit.
After the build everthing booted without any problems. The rotaty’s and all controls are working fine. But… now I don’t have any sound anymore (not on the line and Headphones)
This was working before. I did’t made any changes to the software. It was still on the original V5 kit setting. During boot there a there no errors reported. I can see the VU level meters move. All the volumesetting are on full. I can run ‘test audio’ … but… No sound. Since the whole hardware for the audio is on the mainboard there is not mush I could do wrong building the thing.
I made a new clean Image, which also loaded immidiately. But testing audio still has no sound
So any suggestions. because I’m out of options now and it’s not really funny anymore.
Thanks
Might be worth checking that the external audio - cables-amp-speakers, are still good with another audio source.
I too have this problem sometimes. It’s software related because after rebooting it sometimes works again.
I apperciate the reaction but offc ourse I checked this.
I rebooted nummerious times and even made a new clean image. So this is not the case.
Before I rebuild with the new control board audio was always working.
Did you check the audio levels?
Are the leds in the main board lighting?
Regards
Yes, I have checked the levels, all at full.
and as you can see in the picture the leds are both on. In the previous build I never had issues with audio. (with this mainboard)
any idea , what can be happening here. Audio was working before (except the headphone) and in test builds I never had problems with audio. But now u. the finale build where I actually only changed the controlboard, there is no audio anymore.
Very weird
Hi @Rotil66 !
Sorry, I’ve no idea of where the problem could be. You seem to have checked all the possibilities.
We and many users assembled the kit many times and never had this issue (no audio at all), but most of time we assembled the PCBs inside the alucase, what brings the needed protection for the PCB chips.
Until now, you have been playing with the PCBs over the desk, without the alucase protection. This increase the risk of ESD (Electro Static Discharge) and other issues. It depends a lot of how carefully you manipulated PCBs. Did you follow the basic rules for avoiding ESD?
If the main board audio was working and now it’s not, it may be broken. The main board is a PCB with sensible ICs that can be broken while manipulating. Electrostatic charges from your body could break the ICs, etc.

Hi Fernando,
Yes, I have been building and repairing electronics for the last 50 years with way more delicate board than this. (this is pretty sturdy designed)and I am well aware of ESD and always following the basic rules, like handling with straps, not directy touching parts and leads, etc etc. It would be a pretty much a coincidence that the board would break on the final, pretty simple assembly.
Yes, in my previous test build I didn’t consider there was also the option of a B type cable. These things happen in these rare ‘blind’ moment since the cable was not added, but that was solved in a very good way. So no problem/blame there.
But with the Mainboard, which was working all the time, except for the headphone. So I think there was already something wrong since I never had any output on the headphone from day one. As you know, I have been asking questions on the forum about this since I was assuming I did something wrong in the setting. But looking back now, I think there was already an issue that has might now spread to the main outputs. But the bottom line is I order the original parts to avoid this kind of things and have a system as designed.
(since it is a nice design, it makes no sense to copy it myself)
But now I have spent quite some money ending up with nothing.
So what solution can be found.
Thanks and Regards,
Rolof

Hi, Fernando,
I see that the package is ready to send.
Is the thermalblock added? I can’t see it on the shipping list? Would be a pitty if this i forgotten.
Thanks!
