Hi all, I am new to the Zynthian world (built my V5.1 yesterday) and I love it. Cannot walk away from it.
But I have 1 question which answer I couldn’t find in the manual or in discourse, so maybe somebody can help me.
I want to apologize in advance if I ask something that I could find somewhere else.
I have an existing pianoteq stage account. with Steinberg model D and Classical Guitar pack.
installing the packs on the Zynthian went perfect, and also register-proces went smooth. (I can see the Zynthian registration in my pianoteq user area).
But wherever I look in Zynthian, I cannot find my classical [piano] edit: guitar pack.
Does anyone know where to look? Or is the classical [piano] edit: guitar pack not supported by Zynthian? (that would be a huge bummer)…
A very warm welcome to you @VideoNerd. You will have lots of fun with the zynthian and I hope you also enjoy some time here in the forum.
You initially mention Classical Guitar but later take about Classical Piano. I assume you mean guitar.
The Classical Guitar instrument in Pianoteq crashes 32-bit arm OS so we disabled it. We recently moved to 64-bit OS and have found this bug does not effect zynthian Oram. We will enable Classical Guitar in the next point release which I hope to see in the next few weeks.
If you are too eager to test this, you could move to the Vangelis (testing) branch
Dear Riban,
You’re absolutely right, I mean the classical guitar pack. (stupid typo).
I am very happy to read that it will be supported in the next release.
I am happy to test it, but as this is my first day as a Zynthian community member, I first have to read/learn more what Vangelis is and how to set it up.
I will look for more info on this matter this weekend.
And of course, thank you for helping me!
I wish you a pleasant weekend!
You might have already gathered from the forum and wiki that Zynthian is as an open source project with different stable and testing branches, that is official and developmental releases in coding community parlance.
Oram, after the programming pioneer Dafne Oram, is the current stable and official OS version, which I suggest you familiarise with in-depth, since it has been released just recently, after a long and demanding development path on the part of the Zynthianlabs coders.
I would not recommend using the testing version - which you can shift to changing the destination of the system repository in the webconf Zynthian configuration app - unless you have earned a bit of expertise with the device and its music IT environment, and most of all you have two running Zynths, in order to be safe from possible system crashes.
The current testing branch of the OS is named after the Greek electronic composer Vangelis, and is already promising to deliver exciting improvements like the ADSR graphical representation, and arguably much more.
For the moment, I would strongly advise to stay with Oram, and enjoy your new multifarious musical tool!
Thank you for sharing your insight.
I was just looking into this matter, and I had some doubts to dive into this adventure.
Together with your advise I concluded that it’s better to be patient and wait for the next firmware release for the stable version.
I do wonder if there are any other Pianoteq packs disabled, or that it was pure coincidence that I have the only pack that doesn’t work.
Does anybody knows?
Hi Riban,
thank you for your answer, now I know I can buy another pack without any problems.
Will wait for firmware release to use my classic guitar pack again.
Thank you for your quick help!
ps. I changed the subject of this thread so it is more useful for others to find/read.
