i have seen lately some discussions around large screens (non-tactile ones) and the idea is quite intriguing. But i wonder what are you guys using (the one who has these)? I would ultimately like to get something in the 10-inch domain, with a stand (somewhat tilted would be preferred) that would allow me to run a proper DAC in some all-in-one package.
Any nice pointers that you can provide? What works for you?
Hi, there are tons of ideas here on the forum, including many setup examples with displays of various sizes. Below are three pictures of my second Zynthian with a Waveshare HDMI '7 display. Good luck!
While at the moment I am in the process of finalising a totally bespoke all-in-one Pi 5 Zynthian case, with an 8" inch touchscreen, I have considered other commercially available options in the past.
This modular case for Raspberry 5 accepts a range of 7" touch displays, and - even more importantly - seems to allow the installation of added hat boards inside the enclosure, thus presumably a DAC also.
Beyond the 7-8" screen size, no matter how deeply I have searched, I never found anything on the market capable of holding the added depth of a Hat interface.
You can always draw and print in 3D… All you need is the exact measurements or a well-taken perpendicular photograph.. With Fusion 360 you can easily obtain the exact measurement from a photo and then print.
There are also excellent materials aesthetically. Below, for example, is a tenor saxophone mouthpiece I printed in PLA Carbon Fiber for a friend who plays the saxophone.
Since this is a test, I made this print with a 0.2 layer and a 0.4 nozzle… If it works well, I’ll make it with a 0.1 layer (unfortunately, I can’t use a 0.2 nozzle with Carbon Fiber).
Indeed, my current 7" Zynthian project does employ a custom 3D-printed case, courtesy of a friend’s Bambu Lab P1S.
We are developing the enclosure’s design on Rhinoceros 3D, which I used to handle quite proficiently back in the day.
Hi @Aethermind , I’m not familiar with Rhinoceros (I actually know it, but I’ve never worked with it). But for a few years now, I’ve been studying Fusion 360, which is licensed free for personal use and is incredibly powerful. I don’t think the rest of my life will be enough to master even a small part of it.
It looks very professional lanfranco. I like the support “legs” here that will allow it to rest at an angle. Did you release your 3d-design somewhere?
It looks very nice indeed. I will read up on it. Thx
When scouring around, i could really only find a variable height enclosure for the official 7-inch LCD:
But that would be quite acceptible of course (i have one of the 7-inch LCD running atm as my photo-slideshow) but I’d prefere if there was something a little bit bigger “out there” with a proper enclosure. I’ll continue to browse around
Hi @ledan , the legs are original to the display, but if you notice, one is thinner and I designed it myself because the original one made two USB ports unusable. I don’t know if I have the file, but if you need it, I’ll gladly redraw it. Let me know.
P.S.
I found the two print files (.STL) for the legs. One is the original drawing and the other is the one modified to make room for the USB.
Hi JayBee, very interesting screen case indeed. Thank you for the pointer
Its certainly quite nice even if it is a 7 inch, but I’m thinking plugging a DAC+ into it would mean drilling a few holes (not a bit issue either, granted). The case looks very nice imho.
