I use patchage instead.

Yep! I didnât figure out how to get qjackctl running reliably but donât need its features now. I use patachge or jack_lsp / jack_connect or Python jack library to manage my manual routing.
apt install patchage
patchage -A &
installs and launches patchage in the background with ALSA disabled.
Disable Sprung Layout (Ctrl+T to toggle or View menu) to avoid everything jiggling about. Position stuff and zoom / size to suit then close Patchage. The settings are saved for next time. It is not a bad application, only rarely crashing!!!
