It’s more or less the double of the price of an 800x480 HDMI + USB touch sold on aliexpress. But I always found this solution a bit messy for getting a clean integration with All these cables. DSI interface is much more convenient for this IMHO.
According to the description, it’s just TFT, not even IPS. (I have to admit I’m rather sensitive on the quality of displays…) And still more expensive than my Waveshare QLED - at least it has a better resolution.
On some photos I see the screen is not really black and it is recessed internally behind the surface. Obviously no bonding. Nothing written about any glass quality / hardening.
At least resolution has gone up a bit.
Time to allow native gui and Mod-UI directly on the Zynthian.
Here’s an announcement of a new five inch variant of the Touch Display 2:
A new 5″ variant of Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 - 2025-08-18
Last year we launched the refreshed 7″ Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 as a successor to our original 2015 Touch Display, offering a simplified form factor and higher 720×1280-pixel resolution at the same $60 price point. Today we’re excited to announce a new 5″ variant, available to buy now from Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers. It shares the same resolution and easy setup as the 7″ variant, at the low price of $40.
