RBPi 5 in 2G RAM version, be carefull

I do not own (yet) a Pi 5. Mostly because I’m quiet happy with mi Pis 3 or 4 and because I find the 4G and 8G versions too expensive.
The 2G version makes me reconsidering my POV.

But yesterday, while being on Jeff Geerling’s website, and because I plan to buy a 2Gig version, I see here

that the SOC has a different size, and especially height, then for the 4/8 Gig version. They differs from +/- 0.65 mm.
This may cause troubles for a good contact between SOC and heatsink in the 5.1 kit.

The gap can be filled by a somewhat thicker heat transfer pad.

Absolutely, it’s just an advice to prevent bad surprises (and 2 weeks of stand by while the thermal pad travel from China to your home :wink:
