Recommendation of which Novation Launchpad

Hello everyone!

Does anyone have recommendation to which Novation Launchpad two buy for controlling ZynPad?

Greetings and profound awe and respect from Norway

Hey @core.east, you need to be more specific (your title has no detail even). Do you want to launch sequences only or do you want to do more? By more I mean use more functionality. Do you want to spend $50 or $300?

The drivers for launchpads with zynthian are basic but useable. I’m slowly updating the driver for my launchpad pro mk2 based on @oscaracena’s great driver for the apc key 25(did you consider this device instead?). Some of this pro driver functionality could possibly work with other launchpads.

The nice thing about the pro mk2 specifically is that they are cheap, good quality and there are other custom firmwares out there that can be fun to play around with. Like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZhMxONI00Y

If you get one I’d can share the custom driver. It will require a little bit of tweaking to get it going.

Hi LFO

Yes, i can see that i was not so very precise. 2 reasons for that maybe, 12 hour work days right now, but also a bit clueless.

And in fact your answer is really good for me, beecause it helps me to solidify my thoughts about this some more.

I have the apc key 25, i bought it from new after first testing another Akai. The @oscaracena driver is really good, and i have been using both the Device controller, the Sequencer thing ang the Zynpad thing. Since my Zynthian is headless i use the device controller a lot, and i am thinking that i could benefit from another ZynPad controller in order not to switch two much between the three modes on the APC 25 (just workin and g with the sequencer and the device controller) and then a seperate controller for ZynPad.

And if you are working on the launchpad pro mk2 driver (i interprete that as a sort of recommendation) then i am inclined to source one of those.

And i watched the YT vid. Seems really amazing, but i could not follow it all, and will try again tomorrow (no work tmrw)

Thanks a lot for your very adequate and usefull input!

The price for a used launchpad pro mk2 where I live is very reasonable that’s why I chose one. The big benefit is MIDI in/out and a total of 96 buttons vs 80 with launchpad X/mini.

The vid is a bit confusing at first, it’s a 32 track 32 step sequencer. It’s amazing for making polyrythmic stuff, it does take a bit of watching to understand the workflow.

It sounds like you are familiar with the driver as you have the apc key. So far all the functionality is working in this launchpad driver adaptation except the sequencer part. I haven’t figured out how to add notes yet using the ‘notepad’ functionality. It will take some more wrangling.

There where 2 used Launchpad Pro for sale in Norway at around 100 USD. But i was confused about mk2 and mk1. I only found an AI answer to that, and that was as normal confused and inconsistent! The article you mentioned @LFO, from Novation is also not mentioning anything about different Launchpad Pros. This article states the difference between Launchpad Pro mk2 and mk3, and the mk2 here looks exactly what one seller in Norway of a used Launchpad Pro labels as 1. gen (which suggest mk1). I am then a little confused, but feels a convergence towards buying one of those in Norway that are possibly/probably Mk2.

I always (since the start of my Zynthian career) wanted to take up coding again, and do some small contribution to the development. Making drivers for controllers seems like a usefull and not to complex area to begin in.
