Maybe again a noob question but couldn’t find a solution:
I am performing on my Zynthian V5 Kit (Oram) in multitimbral mode. My external sequencer (Midicake Arp) triggers two instruments (two pads) on chains with Midi channel 1 and 2. On next two chains with Midi channel 3 and 4 I configured two instruments with variation of Pianos which I want to play with a connected USB-only keyboard (Korg microKEY Air).
The problem now: I can’t change the Midi channel on my keyboard, it is not able to do this. But I want to play the two different pianos along a live performance. The only solution which worked was to connect another external Midi filter device (CME Widi pro). But I want to avoid too much gear or unnecessary gear.
Is there any solution to change “USB Midi in” in multitimbral mode only with Zynthian tools?
You can build a midi chain listening only for the USB device and use one of the multiple midi filters (midi channel mapping). I had to check it later, but there should be a Zynthian possibility. Regards
To make it a little easier: I can use two piano variations on the same Midi channel. So the one I don’t want to play now I simply mute the chain. So I need a filter that maps all incoming USB-Midi notes to one Midi channel. Is this possible? Couldn’t find a way so far…
In each chain you can configure “Midi in”. All chains which should not be triggered by USB but by DIN-Midi I easily disable “name of connected USB keyboard”. In each chain I want to play with connected USB keyboard I keep “name of connected USB keyboard” enabled and disable everything else.
In Mixer page the selected piano chain gets triggered by the USB keyboard even Zynthian is in multitimbral mode. Works for me so far.
Sorry, seems to be basic Zynthian handling but I have never used the “Midi in” configuration.
While performing with USB Midi keyboard I want to tweak other instruments/samples in other chains (Cutoff/Resonance or move head in sample of Zynsampler). So choosing the active “USB” piano in mixer page is not the best solution.
One trick would be again to use external sequencer to go via Midi CC and learn the parameters in Zynthian.
But hopefully I find a way to change USB playing instrument independently from using the mixer chain selector.
Sorry for all the mess . Maybe my thinking has a general issue .
As I said there is no feature to change Midi channel on my USB keyboard(Korg microkey). I only just want to play two chains layered, triggered by USB-in only.
Now I choosed multitimbral mode and set both chains to Midi channel “all”. But only one of the chains played (without beeing selected in mixer). Why do not both chains play?
I assume the one instrument chain was broken somewhere so it didn’t behave as expected. I deleted the chain, add a new one and now it works like a charm.
