SooperLooper - In Testing

I’m still in my learning curve to Z, ( please be polite☺️) so I ask a simple question. I want to play a drum loop( .wav ) and record some Pianoteq and bass line. Can you tell my the procedures with sooperlooper? I was not able to record my wav drum loop.(maybe I miss something)

We are always polite!

Do you want to record a drum loop or import a previously recorded loop?

To record, press the record to start and again to finish and start looping.

To import, go to the import control and twist to open file browser.

Thanks, I Found the load loop button :grimacing:. Zynthian is digging and more digging for a newbie.
I’m amazed by the infinite possibilities of this little thing. I think that’s the “definitive “ portable instrument.

So, I just got my Usb Audio device recognised with the Mic in, and I get Audio through from the Mic in to the Main out, and it’s been talked about already three years ago? Yikes!!
I have a lot to read…

An idea was floated in another thread about removing the option to add/remove loops and always have 6 loops / tracks available in zynthian sooperlooper. I did some basic testing and don’t see significant impact on resource usage to have all 6 loops.

The question to our esteemed loopers is, what advantages are there to being able to add / remove loops / tracks?

Sooperlooper allows many tracks. We constrain that to 6 within zynthian because if fits neatly on the screen and 6 seems a reasonable maximum for musicians to manage / remember, i.e. 6 is an artificial maximum that we chose (in consultation with you users). If we were to remove the option to change this, it simplifies design and control. Users don’t need to add / remove loops - just use them. Thoughts?

It’s a nice simplification.
Six would probably cover at least 80% of uses, in truth it’s probably closer to 98% . . .

Can we squeeze it all on to six footswitches and no screen in a sweaty pub with Colin the cleaver desperate to perform again, with “Please release me let me go..”. once more, again, and again, again and again until he gets it right?

To be honest, I still can’t get past the lack of a Stop Switch in soaperlooper.

Is Baggy’s still the canonical video?

As for populating the two default presets with six loops each, I see no harm.

As for removing the control alltogether, I don’t know.

Removing the control would mean auto-adding loops to fill up to six on existing sessions.

Personally, I have been using more than six loops. Added via osc, through my APC key25 mk2 driver. The APC has got five rows, so I had to implement scrolling anyway. One row per loop indicating progress and offering one click acces for common actions.

I have not experienced troubles with the zynthian UI after doing so (it simply shows the first 6, and cycling through loops via zynthian is fine, I.e. not maxed to 6).

Loading existing sessions should anyway not discard loops beyond the sixth.

I was interested to know if anyone used so many loops - apparently so! Good call on offering a preset with 6 loops. Your comment about going beyond 6 does make me think there might be an advantage to making the zynthian GUI support this, with a scrolling window of loops/tracks.

I think that i occasionally could benefit from more than 6 loops. Also it feels “unfair” to be restricted to 6 loops. So my vote goes towards making the GUI so it support scrolling beyond 6 loops. Easy to say when i know for sure that I’m not the one who will do the coding

Hail to the Coders!

I also missed that functionality on several occasions

I just have the power on a seperate footswitch.

There are instruments involved too.
