Superlooper tutorial

I would like to read a Superlooper tutorial.

My goal is to record loop using instrument chains but when I tried I only record noise. Even playing with level I can’t get a sufficent result.

Could you help me? A simple snapshot preset as example could be a good starting point.

The simplest way is to put the sooperlooper in the main chain so that it collects audio from all the chains.

I don’t go about how I set it up though. I Bold press on each chain and set the audio out to the sooperlooper.

Easier to put it on the main chain though.

I have other trained fish you know, and they can swim up. canals…

I would also like to read a tutorial on how to use SooperLooper in Zynthian. Being new to looping, and fairly new to Zynthian this is a bit overwhelming.

I haven’t found any good tutorial out there. There are some key mappings on the Wiki. Floyd does a nice video as usual, but doesn’t explain in detail the functionality of buttons and settings.

Some basic questions, please point me in the right direction:

  • How do you get a metronome?
  • How do you set the length of the loop? I get that the first recording sets the length, but can it be quantized? How?
  • How do you stop and “rewind” to the beginning?
  • Can I send MIDI sync to a connected HW synth?
  • What exactly does all the buttons do (substitute, insert, multiply, etc.)?

Metronome is enabled in the tempo page.
Look at the video posted earlier in this topic then come back with any remaining questions.

Yes, I saw it. It’s a good demo, but it doesn’t really answer my questions.
Has the functionality never been described in text somewhere?

I will look for the metronome in the tempo page. Thanks.

There is an option to sync sooperlooper to the zynthian transport. There is a preset called, “sync2clock” to enable this. It synchonises the start and end of loops to the transport (start/end of bar).
There is no concept of stop/rewind in the looper. It is continually running. You can pause and you can retrigger. These are probably the closest.
MIDI sync is tied up with the transport, etc. We are working on that in vangelis and it is getting better but has been suboptimal for a while. You may be able to do what you want but it needs more description.
Read upstream SooperLooper documentation to better understand how to use the looper. Zynthian hosts thousands of engines and we can’t write bespoke documentation for them all and should not be repeating stuff that the upstream projects have already written.

Hi Laban77

I think most of your questions has got an answer, but i will put in the following;

As i remember: When you use the preset sync2clock as Riban suggest, it will sync to something i do not really know the name of (i think it is Bar - anyway we can call it a sync point) but if you do not stop the recording it will continue and stop only at max length (40secs, possible to change in a py file) - when you stop the recording it will continue to record to the next syncpoint

I have had some successes using SL, but it is difficult with all the limited knowledge spread around in more than one thread on this forum, if anyone is interested, maybe we could make a little investigation, and the result of that could be a better understanding of SL and maybe a wiki entry on Zynthian pages. I think at least for my part, the best way to go about it would be some kind of online meeting with screen sharing. I spend some of my limited mental resources just to figure out what people mean with what they are writing. Of course in many cases on this forum, when i finally figure out what everything meant, i’m normally left with very concise and efficient advice. For which i am still very thankful and impressed!

Is that SooperLooper related? I’m not sure i understand, and having spend the last couple of weeks only on the Vangelis Planet, i think it might have changed, but what i did in Oram was making a MIDI+Audio chain (Audio is not needed to send clock, but i quess you would want the HW synth’s output routed back to your Zynthian) and in MIDI settings in the chain (and maybe also in the general MIDI settings) you should enable Transport messages from one of the MIDI inputs (i did it in the Sequencer MIDI settings)
I am away from home, and can only get hands on my machines tomorrow late evening, so probably some one has answered more and probably better about this - if not - i will put in some screenshotd

sounds like

Yes i thought so maybe, but maybe it should be a sub division that concentrates on one thing, and has the time available for just that thing?

Damn i must get my self mentally ready for synthclub soon!

There is no preparation sufficient for the experience that is zynthclub!

We could do a zynthclub dedicated to one subject. No need for splinter groups. Anyone not interested neen not attend.
