I am proud to show the first pictures of a Zynthian presented on the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA) booth at the NAMM Show as one of the first MIDI 2.0 product available
For those who don’t know, the NAMM is simply the biggest music fair in USA. It lasts four days and is reserved to music professionals.
The MMA is about to publish the specification for Ethernet based MIDI 2.0 communication (for now, only the USB communication specification is public), but as I am a member of the Transport Working Group of the MMA, I have been able to write the Network UMP daemon for the Zynthian (and @jofemodo did also a wonderful by modifying the user interface to add the NetUMP menu just in time for the NAMM)
Visitors can use and test the different devices presented on the table, including the Zynthian. For the demos, the Zynthian is controlled by the keyboard you see on the top of it (if you look carefully, you will see that the Zynthian is only connected by the network, as DIN MIDI connector are not compatible with MIDI 2.0).
And for those who are wondering, the software running on the PC on the left is something called UMP-OX (if you zoom enough, you will see a device called "Black Zynthian V5 on the screen). This is a software I am currently writing which acts as a patchbay and is the MIDI 2.0 equivalent of the good old MIDI-OX.
UMP-OX will available for free once I release it, and it works on Windows, Linux and MacOS.
Hi @BEB,
It’s great to see Zynthian on a presentation table like this. If I do the math, I basically now have at least three types of devices with MIDI 2.0 support (Zynthian, any computer and BomeBox). I noticed that the BomeBox comes with two net cables. Would you have any information on him?
I am not a big specialist of the Bome Box (even if I know very well his designer ), so I can only tell what I know.
The Bome Box has two independent Ethernet interfaces, exactly like if your PC has two network cards. Each interface can have its own configuration (IP address) and can be used like the other, the two interface can do the same things.
They can also be used to chain up to 3 or BomeBox for some applications
I’m finding zynthians benefit from a USB/ethernet hub which provides two Ethernet ports, the on board port which can work one to one with a local net for qmidinet and an external port to connect to the other environments for updates and similar non musical interactions.
The crazy thing is that I was doing a demo of the Zynthian at the exact same moment (when Andrew Mee is being interviewed), I was just on the left of the camera (you can even see Andrew looking at me a few times as we did our best to not interfere with each other because of the camera)
