New zynthian user here, I come from the MOD platform.
I have been using the obxd on the mod platform, and now was testing on the zynthian. I found out you guys use the old 2DAT version of the obxd, and not the more recent discoDSP version.
That one has more voices then eight, up to 32. I run an arpeggiator on the obxd and the difference between 8 and 32 voices is actually VERY noticeable..
Is there a reason you guys dont use discoDSP his version? MOD used it because it was open source, only the GUI from discoDSP had limited rights.
I can help if needed into converting the presets with the additional parameters in the lv2 ttl files.
I checked it out, the GUI is cool! Tested saving a patch, it is differently structured then before. How can I know if I convert presets that the preset structure won’t change again, untill version 1.0 ?
You can’t. Either keep on and hope for the best, or wait for a stable version. OB-Xd is still there even if it isn’t the latest and greatest version.
I just noted that DiscoDSP released a version 2.19 of OB-Xd in December Releases · reales/OB-Xd · GitHub (including source). One new item is that the version is “Fully Free - This build allows commercial use”. Previous versions were only free for personal use.
Looking back at the version history including previous versions (https://www.discodsp.net/news/obxd2.html), most improvements are in the GUI area which might not be a major benefit in Zynthian. There are a couple of code fixes though that may offer improvment in specific areas. One major difference between version 1 (as currently employed in Zynthian) and version 2 is a maximum voice count of 32 (although in terms of code it is a simple change, just a change of a constant).
