Using zynthian with x86 desktop

Hello Zynthian’s user,

I have been fortunate to discover Zynthian and have been using it for over a year now, and it has been excellent. I use it in my live band work, and it has proven to be very effective. Recently, I have also been following the progress of the vangelis branch, and I am very interested in testing it and contributing in some way.

At the moment, I use my only Raspberry Pi exclusively for live band performances, so I cannot install the vangelis version on it. I have made quite a few modifications to the user interface, and therefore I am looking for a way to run Zynthian (UI only) on an x86 desktop environment. I would like to ask whether this is feasible.

Best regards,

Welcome aboard!, and when do we get to hear the results…?

Not really. It’s designed for a LInux environment, relies heavily on Linux audio handling and heavily refined around the Raspberry Pi hardware.

Hi @sangto2906 !

While it’s possible ( i sometimes run the zynthian UI in my linux desktop), it’s not something mature nor ready for production. There is no documentation nor guides about how to do it and i have no time available for documenting this. Anyway, you could start taking a look at this script:

It’s not complete and the process is complex, so you would need time and patience and fight a little bit if you want to have the UI running in your desktop PC.

Here is the config dir i use in my desktop computer:

config.tar.xz (330.5 KB)

I use Debian. You would need to adapt to your system.

All the best,

I usually use FluidSynth for this purpose, but recently I have been using sfizz and find it excellent, with more advanced effects. I previously recorded a short screen capture. The interface was vibe-coded to make it more convenient to use.

Thank you very much for the instructions, I will try it.

Why thank you.

You might look at other X86 threads like this one Zynthian on x86_64 “Intel” architecture? Might be of interest
