Id tell you a UDP joke but I’m afraid you might not get it

For networking audio, what about Sonobus?, it works on android, on windows Linux and Mac, and also works as a vst so you can put its network audio directly in a daw

Sonobus looks similar to jamulus which we have integrated with zynthian in a dev branch. I just used the instructions on the sonobus website to install from deb and it doesn’t fully install the LV2, causing problems with lilv giving warnings about missing manifest.ttl. (I posted this to the sonobus forum. I didn’t see an issue tracker.) I wonder whether building from source is any better…

[Edit] I see during build that it uses JUCE so we will be constrained by lack of control until we have implemented parameter control in zynthian controller.

So, I’m taking this to mean Tuesday 10th.

Not sure what the children are planning but I can turn up at 19:00 UTC on 10th Dec. The Zynth Club Xmas Special!

That’s pretty much what riban said if you read between the lines, so it makes sense.

I can’t do 10th. Sorry. I can do 9 or 11 but not 10.

I cannot do 11th, 12th or 13th.

19:00 UTC 9 Dec seems to work.

Sounds like a moot.

Friends old and new gathered to share good cheer in out Christmas gathering. There was (quite unusually) much discussion of zynthian, including some developement and design ideas.

  • An audio recording made in zynthian then played back with zynsampler had been pitch shifted. Subsequent playback was okay. Maybe the pitch parameter had been inadvertently changed? (It is on the last page of parameters.) Don’t stop stepping through controller pages, just because one of them is not fully populated!
  • Zynsampler had also crashed… hmmm, it does that sometimes - but is getting better!
  • Zynaudio 8x sounds quite nice and warm, even with a guitar plugged direct without a buffer / impedance matcher.
  • There was a discussion on providing a graphical presentation of processors in a chain as effects blocks with navigation from each directly to its parameter controls.
  • Some (real life) bugs have gotten under the surface and into the screen. You can’t wipe them off.
  • Impressive stories of exploding, electrocuted slugs.
  • We mentioned our aspiration to make zynthian more accessibe for all, including those with different amount of vision, etc.
  • Is CM5 a good basis for an embedded zynth? Probably - but zynthian labs remains commited to the standard Raspberry Pi because it is easier for enthusiasts to obtain and use and it is usually available before than compute modules, giving the community beneift earlier.
  • Looping is a hot topic. There are many workflows, many loopers and multiply those to get the quantity of opinions! It is fair that zynthian has its own workflows that users learn. None of us expect to buy a Roland device then for Roland to change how it works to suit our personal preference. This discussion rolled on for a bit with our resident loopy guy worried that changes may break his workflow. He was teased but also reassured… I hope.
  • Matt Bolton does stuff with loopers that should be considered when firming up zynthian’s workflows and implementation.
  • Earlier Boss pedals used the ASA power supplier that provided 12V. Later ones used the PSA that provides 9V. What your volts, Egor.
  • What is a good, single rail supply, headphone amplifier that accepts unbalanced stereo input and can drive a wide range of headphones to sensibly loud volume? Homework for this week…
  • Not wanting @MrBroccoli to continue to lead the reduction in quantity of strings on an instrument, we were treated to the latest purchase by our friend in the north, a 3 stringed Shamisen with its oversized plectrum (tappy, bangy thing).
  • LilyPond and MuseScore were compared with each having its own benefits, e.g. there are tabs for the shamisen available for LilyPond.
  • MusicXML is a (kind of) standard for transferring score music between applications. Some apps support some of the standard.
  • It can be challenging to steal a campervan if starting it requires half a dozen disparate actions. Old (broken) kit has inherent security.
  • Jitsi can somethimes partially work on one browser and magically start to function in another.
  • Soldering is for young eyes.
  • Onscreen touch buttons (and other types of control) can save fabrication effort (and cost) but lacks physical registration so can be challenging in live performance. You have to look (quite carefully) at the screen to control it, unlike a physical control that can be found with musle memory and feeling.

No mention of the approved zynthian eyewear?

I’m sorry I missed it, particularly for Compute Module discussion, but had no choice. I am hopeful that either a Zynthian Mini Variant or Zynia (or both) can be based on a Compute Module in the not-too-distant future.

re - headphone amp:

I think this is single rail - VCC is DC IN + and VEE is DC IN GND, see the referenced, Creative Commons, schematic:

And it’s available as a partial kit or just a bare PC Board or DIY.

I’ve got next Wednesday off work so we can meet then.

Blimey! No chimneys to sweep? I’ve got a date with a trifle. There may be sherry involved.

Anyone up for an unusual Friday meet? I know most of you will be strutting your stuff on the dance floors of the disco at the local social club but for those who have a more sedentary life or are at the less-social end of the spectrum… 19:00 UTC Friday 24th January 2025 at the usual place. For those unfamiliar with the usual place, DM me.

Sound good to me.

Sigh, my Fridays rehearsal slot :frowning:
Maybe next time I’ll be able to show up.
Have a good one!

Fridays are good for me. My wife is out.

Alas, I cannot make it. Next time hopefully.
