Zynthian and Linnstrument split mode

Haven’t received my kit yet, but I’m VERY excited to get involved.

The main reason I’m interested is the widening MPE support on it, and the modules available already that can make use of MPE.

Question: is it possible to assign midi channels 1-8 to one patch/synth, and 9-16 to another? Linnstrument has a handy split mode that allows this, essentially making it possible to play a different MPE synth on each side of the board with 1 midi out, as long as it’s possible to also make the split in a multisynth device.

The other option is buying 2 Zynthians :scream:

Well, currently this is not possible with the default configuration, but it could be easily achievable with the standard MIDI tools.
You could, for instance, create 2 chains with SurgeXT listening to ALL MIDI chans. This would enable MPE. Then, add “MIDI channel filters” that limit the channels that effectively receive each chain. Indeed, perhaps you can do this from SurgeXT too.

Regarding performance, it’s going to depend of the choice of presets. SurgeXT + MPE is CPU intensive, so perhaps you need 2 zynthians to play as you want.

We are planning to integrate mainstream Dexed, that also supports MPE and it’s much lighter than SurgeXT.

A third possibility is using the TAL U-No-LX-2, that also has MPE support. It’s a commercial plugin that emulates the Juno-60 and you have to pay a license to use it, but the demo is installed in zynthian.

All the best,
