Zynthian marketplace - buy and sell Zynthians, Zynthian Parts, and Zynthian Adjacent Products

Hi all.
I was looking for a second hand Zinthian, I found some V2 models on ebay from a french guy.
Not much else. I was thinking that it would be cool if Zynthian Discourse had a section for marketplace also, so if someone is upgrading or has some spare parts secondhand or some
diy that he wants to sell, ther’d be a place for this things.

I am looking for a second hand Pi4B 4gb or more also at the moment, maybe I found one
for cheap, and have myself some random gear I would like to trade… old ICs, a PO, etc.

So, nothing, maybe there’s already a place for it and I don’t know if it’s allowed or not
also, and thought was good education to ask before.

Tnx.

I am looking for a 2nd hand Zynthian 5.1 even without RPi5

Dears,

I am selling a Raspberry Pi 4 8G of RAM with the official raspberry pi’s 7 inch touch display and the aluminum KKSB case (originally for Raspberry pi 5, but can be used also for the 4 I just had to add the headphone out).

The item is tested and fully working,

The item can be seen and purchased directly for 100€ (+ shipping and fees, about 3-7€ at most depending also on the sipping offers) from the following links/platforms:

Subito.it - Discounted shipping wiht inpost at 0.99€ until the end of 21/11

Vinted.it

Wallapop.com - Discounted shipping wiht inpost at 2.49€ until the end of 23/11

Many thanks and have all a nice day.

I changed the title of this topic from:

Add a marketplace category?

to:

Zynthian marketplace - buy and sell Zynthians, Zynthian Parts, and Zynthian Adjacent Products

because that’s what it has evolved into.

How much can you sell an official Zynthian V 4.4 with 8GB Raspberry 4, 64 GB SD card, power supply, and original case?

I’d say around 250-280€ is a fair price.

I bought a V4.0 on ebay with a RPI4 2G and a 32G Sandisk pro extreme for 245€ including the shipping costs.

It is strongly advised to use tracked shipping and recording the content of the package on video, especially for platforms like ebay, vinted, wallapop, subito, or with paypal good and services payments.

Out of curiosity, why are you selling it? Have you thought about just upgrading it with RPI 5? You may also skip and modding of the case, the PI still fits and the ports are usable. I can send you some pictures in the next days.

Exactly, I am selling it because I would like to upgrade to Pi5.
If you can send me information about upgrade I would be very happy

I’d like to hear more about the possibilities for upgrading the Zynthian V4.x to use a Raspberry Pi 5 without modding the V4.x case as well. I remember seeing posts that people had done it, but I remember (vaguely) that it seemed like it required mechanical changes due to increased cooling needed. If it can really be done with just swapping the RPi board and no sawing that would be far out!

I will send some puctures in the next days, and put them in the V4 upgrade posts, however such modificatios are not actually necessary:

  • USB and Lan ports are still accessible via the holes, even if these are swapped and look a bit ugly.
  • The RPI 5 cooling block requires to raise the DAC ADC with a GPIO expander. But the everything fits. You may ( or not) need some tweaking of the ribbon cable. I had a spare cooling vent that I just had to screw internally on the back of the case so that blows the air out as suggeste by Jofemodo.

I upgraded my V4 with an RPi5 a while ago (as have others); I shared my experiences in this thread: Zynthian 4 upgraded with Raspberry pi 5! - #18 by ricard

My opinion though it that it is absolutely necessary to make adjustments to the case in terms of filing up the holes for the LAN and USB ports, because apart from having been swapped between the two RPi version, they are not in the exact same position either.

Also, just using a GPIO extender to make room for a cooling block on the RPi5 means that there is no mechanical mounting of the ADC/DAC board; I opted to use two angle brackets to attach it to the rear of the case. I know others have gone just with the GPIO expander which may be fine, but I still think it is a bit mechanically dodgy to rely on just the connector (albeit a 40-pin one) to hold the ADC/DAC board.

I used a passive off-the-shelf cooling block, which thermally connects to the rear of the case using strips of thermal pads. My opinion though is that if you want to run your Zynthian at a constant high CPU load that that is not sufficient; it will get hot and start throttling down. I tend not to do that; I’m using the additional power of the RPi5 to get more voices and lower latency for sure (and to get access to Osirus), but for the music I do, I don’t need to run it at max load constantly, so this is not an issue for me.
