It’s an arranger, with two or three stacked parts on the keyboard, and spits out a gazilion MIDI messages while working, while the MiniNova, as a “silly” (LOL no, I love that machine!) mono-timbral system, sends just the single-channel events.

Could you try disabling/deleting all the MIDI filter rules?
You can comment the rules by adding “//” at the begging of every line 
Also, if you are using a fine-tuning different from 440 or transposing some channel, please, back to defaults.

Ok I deleted all midi filter rules and rebooted. Still no change unfortunately! (no fine tuning different from 440)
If you could record the MIDI stream getting into your zynthian, you could send it and i could try to reproduce the error. Try with jack_rec

I would need a MIDI stream capture. You can use “jack-smf-utils” for recording the MIDi input stream to a standard mid file.
You should copy this file to your zynthian (zynthian/zynthian-sw folder is a good place ) and build and install the package. Something like that:
cd /zynthian/zynthian-sw
wget https://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/jack-smf-utils/jack-smf-utils/1.0/jack-smf-utils-1.0.tar.gz
tar xfvz jack-smf-utils-1.0.tar.gz

Regarding the usage, it’s pretty easy. For recording from the first USB-MIDI port:
jack-smf-recorder -a system:midi_capture_1 p.mid
For recording from the MIDI-IN standard port:
jack-smf-recorder -a ttymidi:MIDI_in p.mid
For re-playing the recorded file to the Zynthian MIDI router:
jack-smf-player -a Zyncoder:input p.mid

If you are using Linux in your PC (or MacOSX with a X window server installed), i would like to remember that you can login into your zynthian box using the “-Y” flag:
ssh -Y root@zynthian.local
that will allow you to run graphic applications in your Zynthian, while displaying the window in your PC. Then, you can run:
qjackctl &
or could try to create a ZynAddSubFX layer and see what happends …

hmm, okay weird. You mean in the the jack-smf-utils-1.0 folder? or in the jack_capture folder? Its in neither of those
I don’t know. In the directory from which you executed the command. If you don’t find it, record again
“cd /zynthian/zynthian-sw” there? I just typed the commands you told me in the terminal. didnt choose any particular directory. When i record it again (what i did and i played it back so it has to be somewhere) i still dont know where else to look for it
or is there some terminal command to save the file to the harddrive of my computer?

Im accessing the zynthian via ssh in the terminal of my macbook, isnt that right?
After pwd nothing happens if I played back the midi file before…
