You seem to be another victim of not noticing/ reading about the processor categories. Processsors (including synth engines) are catagorised. The default category shown for synth engines is “Synth” but you can use the right arrow or encoder 3 to select other categories like, “Sampler”, “Piano”, etc. (Can you guess where you might find Pianoteq?) The zynthian image includes a demo version of Piantoeq. You can install and license a different version with webconf SOFTWARE->pianoteq.
OK yes.. I see the demo version now, thank you. Still some internet config problem may be going on w the device even though I added wifi during the GUI imaging Setup. Overall, trying to figure out what hidden steps are blocking my pianoteq install (for my licenced pianoteq)
hi, I used the Raspberry Pi imager in the Zynthian instructions, and installed “zynthianos-last-stable.img“ like the instructions said…
[ah, sigh, and I’m sorry maybe I’m mis-remembering entering wifi info, from when i chose the raspberry pi OS instead of the Zynthian OS… which is a mistake I was making during the OS install.]
OK so I guess the Zynthian device isn’t on the internet yet, it does see the local wifi but …ok I’m looking into just entering the local wifi info.
I know this might seem like basic stuff, I’m never worked with a raspberry Pi device before so.. it’s all new to me. OK thanks
Almost nothing is intuitive - we learn almost everything. We try to make zynthian as easy to use as we can but continue fail at that task! We love to help those in need and have little expection in return, beyond the occasional .
Gotcha gotcha and– thanks for the help… So! I got http://zynthian.local/ to load (got the wifi set up as it needed configuring after all). Found the password on the webconf page and now things are moving along. Thank you
OK I got my pianoteq license added to the webconf page…struggling to figure out the configuration steps BUT at least the pianoteq install is complete (my license is showing up on the webconf and over on the modartt page as an activation slot… so all that is recognized between both sides). So I know the sounds will be ready to go once I jump through the next steps for the synth setup.
@riban Thanks for helping me think through the install steps.
[…I downloaded and added the .7z file to the zynthian.. which I think belongs to pianoteq 8. Maybe I shouldnt have done that…]
One of the things I came to love of the Zynthian is that is an ecosystem on its own, which abides to its declared rules. In a sense, just like (and I can assure y’all that this is the highest comparison I can throw) the music of JS Bach:
at first sight, relatively little is customary and straightforward, but when you understand the rigorous underlying rationale, and get used to it, it feels like the most logical thing to do, sing and play all over the place.
Cheers @zynthianers, and let me wish a grateful good night to our intrepid and tireless main developers @jofemodo and @riban
Don’t worry, @Aethermind , I don’t mean it as criticism. To paraphrase Voltaire: With great power comes great complexity. And I also think Zynthian does a great job in managing this complexity.
i posted a call for help then.. a couple of hours later the VNC started working, which seemed to get pianoteq to work. So… cool. I Did it? Somehow. Heavy emphasis on the *Somehow.*
I have another pianoteq question for the group. How do i switch pianoteq sounds directly on the device? So far, I’ve only gotten pianoteq to successfully load and configure through VNC… so I CAN switch sounds easily from my desktop Mac. But - I want zynthian to be my live performance/gig device. How do I switch between different pianoteq sounds (that I’ve already bought) while I’m on the zynthian itself? I can’t seem to switch pianoteq sounds on the device within a ‘chain’ or add another pianoteq instrument chain.
The chain/processor thing is a new concept to me, too. So I’m trying to grasp.. all of that
Hi @heybin . I ‘ll give some pointers for you to further explore.
Pianoteq is one of the engines of which you cab only add one. Others are setbfree and sooperlooper (maybe others too, cannot check now).
You can change presets (= sounds) of pianoteq.
To do this quickly, save a configuration as a zs3. These can be recalled quickly, either from the menu or via program change. Which can be fired from the F1-F4 buttons, or from an external MIDI controller.
If you want to layer pianoteq sounds, you can create a layered preset in vnc, and access it from the Zynthian.
thank you. I’m at work now but also will need to ‘digest‘ that info. Definitely seems like what I’m looking for and will check back in later.. ****Thx****
