Sequencer – eyternal Clock not working

Hello,
I am new to Zynthian and I just built a simple version by using the latest stable version (2024-01-16-zynthianos-stable-2401) on a RPI 3B+. Everything seems to work fine except using external midi clock for the sequencer (and yes, I found the knob to choose the clock source in the tempo settings screen). The sequencer just doesn’t work with external clock.
I can see the clock signal coming into the RPi on “http://zynthian.local/ui-midi-log ”. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Christian

Hi @Zedehzedeha, a warm welcome in Zynthian world. I hope you will have a lot of fun.
While it’s normal behavior To go for a stable version of any software, I recommend to write a new sd card with the next stable version of ZynthianOs called Oram.
They are still some little bugs here and there, but it works very well: faster, with a lot of new features and some significant conceptual changes (mostly in chain management).

Oram should be officialy released in a couple of weeks so it’s a better investment To learn how to use it then to learn “stable”.
And the more people use Oram, the more hidden bugs can be revealed.

Is the fact that external midi clock does not work a Bug? Do other users experience the same thing?
Or am I the only Person who is not able to synchronize the sequencer to a clock Signal? Any useful advice anyone?

And yes i am looking forward to test the new oram version.

Thanks a lot

External clock should work. If it is broken in the current stable then it is very unlikely to be fixed because Oram release is imminent. If it is broken in Oram then report it and it will be fixed swiftly. Use the “Report Issue” button in webconf dashboard which will raise a ticket with the system configuration included that helps to track the issue. Give detailed description of how to reproduce the issue and what the expected and actual behaviour is.

I just switched to a RPi 4. In order to get that running I had to install ZynthianOS with a fresh card. So I did all the procedures to get Zynthian running on rhe RPi4. Everything seems to work perfectly fine except Midi Clock in. I wonder if I am too stupid or if this in fact a bug causing this issue …

Did you do a Software Update to stable after installing it? If not, that would be worth a try.

Yes I did – no effect

From this Oram related topic-thread I think you will find that External Midi Clock Sync works in Oram:

a breadcrumb for searchers:

“Clock source” state in “Tempo settings” not restored on boot/reboot. #1091 - Closed

It may be a moot point now, but FYI the link to your local Zynthian log file doesn’t work - I either get my local ui-midi-log or just a timeout if my Zynth isn’t running. You could either copy and paste the relevant section(s) or transfer the file from your Zynth.

It is an interesting idea though, maybe not for log files, but sharing midi or audio files over the net between Zynthians! Post Oram of course!!!

hmmmm – I need Zynthian for a purpose that requires external Midi Clock and I do not get it running. I can understand that noone is really interested to bugfix anything with Oram around the corner. Could it be possible to test Oram instead? I am not a software engeneer and I do not know how to programm at all and I am not sure if I would be a lot of help with my comments… But – who knows :–)))
When do you plan to officially release Oram?
Thx

Yes! You can get the image here:

Thanks so very much. I did install the latest image and updated it. I found the password, configured my hardware configuration. So far everything seems to be running – lets see if I will find some bugs. Right now I am really happy
thx

Most importantly, it’s external MIDI clock now working for you?

Yes it is. I like :–))

I guess I found a little bug but I will let you know when I am sure about it.
Other than that now I can do what I have planned.
Thanks a lot for sending me the link. :–)
