Unable to Install Pianoteq 8.4.1

Hey all.

I just purchased Pianoteq. I installed it on my laptop and it is working fine. I followed the directions here: Pianoteq - ZynthianWiki to install it on my Zynthian. I accidentally tried to upload the unencrypted files first, but then realized I was supposed to upload the whole 7zip archive.

After doing this, the Zynthian web UI showed the correct edition of Pianoteq. I then entered the license key and now the web UI shows what is in the attached image. If I try to add a Pianoteq instrument, I see the following error on the Zynthian screen:

ERROR CUIA zynswitch: (3, 'S')

Any ideas?

Hi @wmnelis !

I just tested 8.4.1 and it works OK, so probably you messed up things when you installed the wrong files. You have 3 options:

  • Install again

  • Delete the pianoteq directories and files and install again.

  • Start with a fresh image

I installed PianoteQ on top of the DEMO one and am continuing to install updates without problems.

Hmm. Odd. I tried installing it multiple times. I even completely rebuilt the image and tried again.

I was using Firefox from a Linux desktop environment. I also tried Chromium.

I am assuming I should be using the Linux 7 zip download.

One other thing I noticed is that the directions show that you should enter your serial number before rebooting the Zynthian, but it seems there is no place to do that. Once I do the upload, the UI states that I need to reboot.

Yes, the .zip for Linux. You drag it into the window that opens on WebConf and install… for a while Mozilla did not let you do it, but now it works for me. Once the installation file is loaded, on Webconf you have to confirm (as with all operations). It restarts and then enter the serial. Without serial it works but without some notes. For me it worked like this.

So I am still stuck here. I think there must be a bug. Here is what I am doing (note I have already purchased Pianoteq and am running it on my laptop):

  • Freshly create a new Zynthian SD Card.
  • Log into the Zynthian webconsole
  • Go to the Software | Pianoteq page (see image 1-ZynthianPianoteq-InitialScreen.png)
  • Upload the Pianoteq image. You can see I am uploading the whole linux 7zip archive. (see image 2-ZynthianPianoteq-UploadScreen.png)
  • Press the “Upload” button
  • Wait for upload to complete (see image 3-ZynthianPianoteq-UploadCompleteScreen.png)
  • Press the “Reboot your Zynthian” button and the confirm button on the next page
  • Wait for reboot
  • Go back to the Software | Pianoteq page (see 4-ZynthianPianoteq-AfterRebootScreen.png)

You can see that the license key entry screen is not available. It just shows “TRIAL” under product.

Has anyone tried doing this same thing from a fresh SD Card? I am being careful to follow all the steps. I have read other threads and I am not making the same mistakes (for example, some people were not pressing the red “Upload” button on the upload screen).

I ssh-ed into the Zynthian as well. I did notice that the /zynthian/zynthian-sys/scripts/recipes/install_pianoteq_binary.sh script seems to have renamed the old trail install of pianoteq (the one that came with the original image) and seems to have installed my version. However, Pianoteq is gone from the Zynthian UI (running on the device) when I try to add it as a instrument. After this process, the “Piano” section of the interface only shows:

  • MDA ePiano
  • SL-kl5 Piano Synthesizer

How does the UI and the webconsole find the Pianoteq install? Is there a broken symlink or something?

Hi @wmnelis !!

I tried with the “stage” package, that is what license, and it works like a charm. Perhaps the issue is with the “standard” package. Could you send me the standard 7z file to test? You can send to this email: fernando@zynthian.org

Thanks,

Sent. Thank you for your help!

Happy to help figure this out if I can get a quick primer on how the web UI interacts with the Pianoteq install and how the UI for the Zynthian itself does as well.

A quick sanity check…Did you try downloading the Pianoteq installer again in case you have a corrupt file?

Yeah, I did try that. I did use the same installer to install Pianoteq successfully on my laptop running PopOS.

Also. Would someone with Pianoteq installed properly send a recursive directory listing of the Pianoteq directory?

Hi! Yours are unrelated issues:

  1. Search for the Pianoteq binary in the Zynthian folder structure and erase it. You uploaded a wrong file. The OS must take care of unpacking it and allocating its components.

  2. There seems to be a problem with the CUIA reading (key actions binding) of your rotary switches. Are they bullt correctly?

Good luck

It works for me in Vangelis. I didn’t check in a fresh installed oram stable but i will do.
Could you try with a fresh installed image, but upgrading to vangelis (or staging) first?

Regards
