Hi… This is my first post, so *hello*

OK, the question- do we have any idea on When zynthian kits will be back in stock?

Hi @heybin !

Welcome to zynthianland!

The kit V5 is available in the shop again, but be warned we don’t plan to re-start sending packages until January 8th.

All the best,

Ah. Are the assembled kits a separate thing? That still shows as… out of stock?

And thank you (prayer hands)

No plans to have more assembled kits in the short term, sorry. Only normal kits you have to assemble.

Hi. Ok, gotcha…

Thanks for the answers. One more question– I’m looking to Zynthian as a way to get a few nice (purchased) vsts that I like (like pianoteq Pianoteq 9.0 released ) into performances. is there a straightforward/ documented path for getting vst loaded on the zynthian? For example I have a nice church organ vst i like from Gospel Musicians.

I can spin this into a new thread (or even send you a DM if you like).

Zynthian does not support VST plugins. We use LV2. We do support Pianoteq using it’s native application so if you have a license for Pianoteq then you can use it on zynthian.

Thanks! I’ll chew on this. I’m most focused on Rhodes, and (church/soul) organ. Preciate ya

Pianoteq, aeolus and setBfree would be the synth engines you may want to use in zynthian.

hi.. thx , i went ahead with buying it. Some lil questions though.
So.. no carla though? Like using Carla for VST is officially not a thing? Asking because I see examples out there. But I’m not really a tech head, not really. I just love how far VSTs have come and want to take that on the road…

Carla and raspberry pi example(on reddit and oh oops theres an a.i. piece to it  )

Pi5 Hybrid with carla output and zynthian shoutout

Zynthian doesn’t support VST. Only LV2 plugins are supported. Anyway, most probably none of your favorite VSTs for Windows have an ARM version.

Thanks. I appreciate the addl info. I reached out to the makers of one of my favorite VSTs to ask about an ARM version. Hey who knows… maybe they know somebody who knows somebody who can make that happen. So far I don’t see ARM listed there.

Thanks for helping a newbie out!

There are substantal challenges to supporting VST in zynthian including:

  • Many VST plugins are not available for ARM based Linux.
  • We do not have the plugin mechanism in the code.
  • There have been licensing issues in the past - this is slightly improved with a recent clarification to the license.
  • We have over a thousand LV2 plugins of varying quality. There are likely plugins that are similar to most people’s requirements.
  • Some plugins depend on GUI to drive them. The GUI toolkit required for VST may be different to those availale on Linux.
  • We must support non-GUI control of plugins, using just the zynthian encoders, etc.

We have considered support for various plugin platforms in the past and each time decided that the iplmentation and support effort is too great for the reward. We would most likely see a small group of users find significant reward and probably a similar quantity, if not more users complaining about some aspect of the implementation, including their favourite plugin not working, which the developers probably don’t have access to for them to resolve such issues… and we have limited hours in our days (just the normal 25!).

So again, sorry to say that we deem VST to be a technology we do not plan to implement at this time.

BTW, have you tried setBfree, that is currently included with zynthian?

I’ve listened to the setbfree demos and they’re cool, they’re okaayyy… but not as rich as the other paid vst organ plugin. I did reach out to the plugin maker and they *may* be able to release a WIN ARM version soon. And it sounds like your group is saying that could be workable for the zynthian :folded_hands:

Thank you @jofemodo and @riban

(@riban the technical info does help me out, really… mulling it over and who knows maybe it can help someone else too. Thank you.)

I don’t know where you got that idea. Zynthian doesn’t support VST plugins. Windows, Linux, Intel, Arm, or otherwise.

This is not going to work for us.
We would need a Linux LV2 ARM64 version to run in zynthian.

Ok gotcha. Thank you :folded_hands:
